SUGAR LAND, Texas — An attempted home invasion was stopped by an armed mother who opened fire on the intruder early Friday, Sugar Land police said.
The woman had her 8-year-old child with her in the home — neither was physically hurt.
The suspect, identified as Santana Anthony Hudson, 21, survived and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
The shooting was reported at about 4:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Shadow Wood, in the Sugar Mill subdivision, according to city officials.
According to Assistant Chief of Police Michelle Allen, the woman told police she was asleep when she heard a noise at her back door. She grabbed a gun and found a man had broken a window and was trying to get in. She opened fire on the suspect, shooting him in the chest.

The police found the suspect. He had a firearm in his possession.
Wasn’t this a movie with Ben Johnson?
Sometimes, you wake up to a good story.
Chest hit. Was she under-gunned?
Well, she did stop the guy.
Shoot one in the chest, and it will run a hundred yards, fall down, and die. I have seen it happen, many times.
That is with a powerful rifle cartridge, five times the power of a .357 magnum.
She shot a man in the chest. He ran a ways and fell down.
He did not die because:
1. He was taken to a hospital.
2. He was probably hit in only one lung, where deer are usually hit in both lungs.
3. His heart was probably not hit.
Undergunend? what are you talking about?
The chest is “center mass”...the head is considerably smaller and harder to hit.
Her mistake was not finishing the job. As it stands, he can sue her ...the only chance she has is the fact she is in Texas.
Good for her.
He was armed, so good thing she shot him when she did.
Just wondering if a different caliber might have produced hydrostatic shock sufficient to “ finish the job.”
How terrified would any mom be in that situation?
Good on her for marking the perp for identification and creating the trail for the police to follow.
Sadly, he did survive. Better luck next time.
Unless this guy is less stupid than most criminals and refrains from forcing his way into other people’s homes in the future.
There are home defense rounds that will produce devastating hydrostatic shock. I think she needs one of them.

Bingo.
Hit the shoulders, many drop right away, but you destroy a lot of meat.
Hit in the lungs/heart, without hitting major bones, most run.
My experience is with deer in northern Wisconsin.
Where is yours? Deer tend to be bigger as you go north.
I am sure there are others on this forum who have experience as well.
Where are you shooting them, that they do not run?
Has similarities to a case in Washington DC in the Capital..
Shot while trying to get in through a broken window.
Police are trained to rapidly fire multiple shots, when they have to shoot, to ensure the threat is actually stopped.
Hit one off my deck from 40 yds 180 gn with a 30/30 in lungs dropped without taking a step. Good tasting venison. Yum
