The Washington Post has published an op-ed arguing that President Donald Trump “must never have” a presidential library.
The paper, whose motto is “Democracy dies in darkness,” presented an argument Thursday by “art and architecture critic” Philip Kennicott about why the history of the Trump administration should, in fact, be shrouded in darkness.
Kennicott wrote: “Trump must never have an official presidential library, and Congress should move quickly to make sure he never will.”
He argued that Trump cannot be trusted to handle documents relating to his presidency, because he “mixed public and private interests.” He adds that Trump must be punished because he allegedly “incited an insurrection” on January 6.
Kennicott argued further that Trump might use a presidential library to tout his successes, which should not be allowed:
The danger of Trump using a presidential library to burnish his image is far more serious, with the ex-president and his surrogates still promoting the idea that his electoral loss was somehow fraudulent. That creates an ongoing uncertainty in American public life, which Trump and even more unscrupulous actors will use to further division, inflame tension, exacerbate racism and delegitimize the American democratic system.
Moreover, Kennicott argues, even if Trump were to build a presidential library, he does not have the skill (despite decades of success as a developer) to build one:

NO WONDER he hates President Trump - Trump put his pizza parties in jeopardy...
Yup...I’m a book person, and I collect old history books or textbooks, too...kinda drives my husband crazy, but he understands...
Whotta POS.
.........let’s trade him LBJ’s, Clinton’s and Obama’s for Trump’s. Meaning burn down LBJ’s, Clintons and the fake Obama’s (in the dream stage still) and we’ll call it a day!
Trump might even think that’s a good deal.
I’m not surprised.
Why Compost, is it your business..NO, so STFU
JEFFERSON DAVIS has a Presidential Library. His Presidency ended in failure, but the library is still there.
This was probably not his first priority. Until now.
The Fake News Exposure wing alone would have writers and viewers flocking to it.
He could have wings where guest speakers can stream out to worldwide audiences.
His library / Trumpland could have it's own airfield and marina.
The firing line, skeet, trap and sporting clays ranges would have repeat guests forever.
The gift shops alone would earn millions along with the restaurants and golf courses.
I work at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library which was private from its founding in 1990 until 2007. Nixon had mandated that his library be private so that taxpayers would not have to pay for it. However, the presidential papers, by law, are held by the National Archives, and in order to get them, we had to join the Presidential Library system run by the National Archives.
This turned out to be a Faustian bargain, because once the government took over, we found ourselves saddled with a director who hated Nixon and did everything he could to trash his legacy. His antics brought him into conflict with the private Richard Nixon Foundation, which previously ran the library and still had a hand in doing so. While this director was in charge, the office area of the library resembled East and West Berlin, with Obama's portrait greeting visitors to the National Archives side and Nixon's welcoming visitors to the Foundation side. Foundation and National Archives employees never exchanged greetings and rarely spoke with one another.
However, now that all presidential documents are digital, Trump doesn't have to make such a Faustian bargain and is free to preserve and present his legacy as he chooses.
LOL.
President Trump’s library would be fun to visit. Either on line or in person. Whether Congress appropriates the money or not.
I’m guessing it will be better than Bill Clinton’s trailer park and massage parlor.

Unfortunately, they chose to build it in Biloxi, Miss. in 1998, apparently forgetting that this town was devastated by Hurricane Camille, a category 5 storm, in 1969. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina, another cat. 5 storm blew through the area and destroyed the library along with many historical artifacts. A new library was subsequently built in the same area.
Freepers!
Don’t curse the darkness. Light a candle!
Surely among us there is a lawyer with the time and chops to start a 501(3)(c) to raise money EXACTLY for the DJT library.
Let’s make it happen!
Can these butthead marxists get any more petty and vindictive? Rhetorical question.
What difference does it make. By the end of the year, this country will be part of the one world government, with the anti -Christ waiting in the wings.
Unlike the previous president, this presidents core supporters are actually literate, so his library would probably have books instead of propaganda videos and basketball courts
Thanks for some inside scoop. Can totally picture the East/West Berlin thing. We are up against some real jerks and unfortunately they have power.
Hats off to Nixon for walking the walk as a private sector guy and having his library be private.
Also will mention that Nixon nailed the commie jackass Hiss and for that deserves some real credit among conservatives, even if he wasn’t as pure of a president as we would have liked.
And the nation doesn’t need a Washington Post.
