Boeing confirmed Wednesday that all 787 Dreamliner production will move to South Carolina in March 2021.

KING 5 first reported the move in late September, when reports emerged that 787 assembly would be leaving Everett and relocating to Charleston, S.C.

...

Boeing shared the following statement on their website Wednesday:

"Commercial Airplanes production rate assumptions reflect the continued impacts of COVID-19 on commercial demand, and the company will continue to assess them on an ongoing basis.

The 737 program is currently producing at a low rate and expects to gradually increase production to 31 per month in early 2022 with further gradual increases to correspond with market demand.

You can bet the social and political climate of Seattle and the state of Washington (taxation) played their roles in this decision.

Soon they will have left the Left Coast.

Good for them.

Hope they don’t take anyone with them unless they have the
right outlook on life.

Most blue collar Boeing employees are conservative and would be good citizens. Management not so much...

The problem is that the aircraft coming out of SC seem to have some SERIOUS quality control issues, while the Everett plant is still turning out acceptable product.

Real-Estate agents Bob McDonald and Jim Youngren put the words,
“Will the last person leaving SEATTLE — Turn out the lights”

on a billboard at S 167th Street and Pacific Highway S near Sea-Tac International Airport.
The two realtors, who worked for Henry Broderick, Inc., put up the billboard as a humorous response to pessimism generated by the national aerospace industry’s nosedive, known locally as the Boeing Bust.

Boeing’s merger with McDonnell Douglas was a disaster. MD is a bunch of idiot bean counters who cared more about money than quality.

Most blue collar Boeing employees are conservative and would be good citizens.

I wouldn't count on that.

Even so called "conservatives" from liberal areas like western Washington have the attitude that government should fix everything for them. I can see them moving to Charleston and the first words out of their mouths will be "this place is great, it just needs more government services and they need a law against people doing XXXXXX"

Thanks for the mention.

We lost Lockheed out here and I hated to see it go.

The Skunk works was located around seven miles from my
home here.

As these plants leave, a lot of middle class people leave.

Those jobs pay the wages that support home ownership and a
lot of community businesses.

We also lost the GM Plant in Van Nuys.

We lost the National Guard reserves aircraft being stationed
at or at least using the Van Nuys, Airport.

These entities leave, and it makes a very big impact on the
local community and region.

These areas can fall off a bit over the years after they
leave.

Absolutely and it all started decades ago (taxation and regulation environment.)

Liberals hate people who get their hands dirty and may sweat from their job. The loss of these jobs is a positive to them.

I went past the building of the union representing Boeing’s workers while visiting Seattle. It has a very large bronze
set of statues in front. They depict a protest. Not happy workers plying their trades...a protest.

When I worked, for another company, but on Boeing’s campus, I was appalled by the restrictive union atmosphere. Frankly, I am surprised Boeing has survived. It’s probably only because of Uncle Sugar and Boeing’s impressive lead due to WWII. But, the world has caught up and Boeing can’t continue carrying an anvil around its neck and expect to compete worldwide.

“Boeing’s relocation will bring thousands of happy progressives with them and turn South Carolina blue.”

I doubt it. With the plane already in production most of the work involves labor, you know, REAL MEN, people who know which end of a screwdriver to hold.

The real question is how much more of their company will move there...could be a lot!

I live in Everett.

Never before has a city and a state so richly deserved what is about to happen to them.

The union headquarters is located just outside of the facility, has a burn barrel statue with workers and their kids celebrating in bronze around it.

In effect, they live to disrupt Boeing.

For the last 30 years, WA state has actively been treating Boeing like it is the Governor’s b!tch. When they moved the HQ, they didn’t bother calling the mayor or the governor. They both called and asked, “How come you didn’t call us? We could have worked this out?” At the time, Stonecipher was co-CEO, and he replied, “We have been,” and hung up.

So, in the sweet, sweet Schadenfreude of a Friday where Citadel, darling of the current Biden USG, is going to have to pay $24.7B of money they don’t have, Boeing is moving 787 production out of Everett.

Everett, home of the most entitled, evil morons on in any blue state.

That means, Everett, the largest airline manufacturing facility on earth, has only 767, 777X, and 747 production remaining. That means, effectively, almost no production at all.

What may happen next: Boeing shuts down the 737 factory in Renton to shake up the 737 organization and move it to Everett. Renton is a relatively small plant and it is hemmed in on all sides by Renton.

Boeing has been leaving Washington for the last 30 years. This is another big step out the door.

Let it be.

The screaming of liberals today is going to be so shrill and angst-filled and sweet.

What a friday!!

I remember that someone put up a similar sign on MLK way (then named Empire Way) near the Boeing Access Rd that spanned Interstate 5 in South Seattle.

I thought the sign a clever poke in the eye of Seattle leadership but never contemplated that it could be a sign of things to come. It sure is looking more and more that way now.
