Nice dream and I would vote for it, but it will never clear the committee, let alone get to the floor and Senate, and then on to the ballot.
According to the joint resolution for annexing Texas, Congress said Texas could break up into five states but all would have to be part of the U.S.
And another reason Texas cannot legally secede is because of the Supreme Court case Texas v. White. Even if the Texas legislature voted to secede, the action would be “absolutely null,” according to that Supreme Court case.
The U.S. Constitution also does not explicitly provide for the possibility of secession.
"The aspiration of the preamble is to create a more perfect union," added UT law professor Sanford Levinson. "Itself suggests that there can be no secession because, by definition, secession destroys the existing union rather than making it more perfect."
I don’t have a disagreement that if a government gets too out of hand the people can separate themselves from it. This is clearly stated in the Declaration of Independence. However the timing is premature. People will not leave until things become so bad they haven’t a choice.
The United States has always been for self-determination. Except when a US state wants it, of course.

That makes no sense. Unless perfect means bigger, which it doesn’t.
bkmk
The biden admin will not allow this to happen, PERIOD!
The Union of Blue States would be more perfect without the devil troublemaker State of Texas in it.
“The Union of Blue States would be more perfect without the devil troublemaker State of Texas in it.”
That’s cool.
I’d like to see the Constitution we’d be under first and maybe some safeguards against Leftist insurgence, theft, and tyranny.
All of the posters here that rag on and on about what is or is not legal according to the US or Texas Constitutions are pathetically dense and downright stupid at the root. We now live under the bootheels of a criminal tyranny that was illegitimately forced on Texans and everyone else by a criminal USSC and traitorous despots of both political parties in Congress. The principle of law that applies here is “Fraud vitiates everything” which means any prior agreement between the US or Texas governments are null and void. Questions of legality no longer matter at this juncture.
The tenth amendment does not deny the right of secession to the states.
He will be defined as a terrorist or insurrectionist in 3 2 1 ....
When I served on the Texas State Republican Platform committee and we finished our report we had 15 states who wanted a copy of it for their own platform meetings.
All those states who got a copy were in the middle of the country and had less than 10 to 15 Electoral votes.
What is the reason for leaving? To make a point?
Pretty sad when so many smaller states look to Texas for good leadership.
Secession is just exactly what the dems want. Why play into their hands?
BINGO! Levinson is living in a fantasy world!
BINGO! BINGO! BINGO!
