For four years, we were informed by our establishment media that President Donald Trump's behavior was "not normal." The abnormality of Trump's behavior became a near rallying cry for the self-appointed heroes of journalism, who spent every waking hour poring over his bizarre tweets and his bloviating self-absorption. The media dedicated themselves to preventing Trump's supposed normalization.
Now, the media inform us, we have been graced by the most normal normal person to have ever normalled: President Joe Biden. Biden, they proclaim, is utterly boring, nondescript, barely worthy of coverage. His administration, too, is paradigmatically normal. Yascha Mounk of The Atlantic tweets, "It is so nice to have a boring President." Alleged media watchdog Brian Stelter asked this week whether Biden is "making the news boring again," adding, "The Biden White House is clearly a break from the chaos and incompetence of Trump world."
For his part, Biden obviously revels in this sort of coverage. This week, his favorite ice cream flavor (chocolate chip) was tweeted out as well as a retweet of first lady Jill Biden's announcement that Champ and Major, the new first pets, had entered the White House.
On a personal level, Biden is clearly more "normal" than Trump -- although treating Biden, a career politician worth nearly $10 million, as the height of normality is rather stunning. The goal for the establishment media isn't to point out merely that Biden is a sort of American Everyman. It's to use that supposed normalcy to disguise the fact that his agenda is absolutely abnormal.
The dirty little secret of the Trump administration is that despite Trump's personal abnormality, his agenda was well in line with past precedent, and with mainstream American opinions on everything from taxes to military policy. Trump did not radically shift American policy. Biden will. Within the first five days of his presidency, he issued 30 executive orders, compared with four for Trump, five for Barack Obama and zero for George W. Bush. Those executive orders included endorsement of radical reinterpretation of American history; killing the Keystone XL pipeline, along with its attendant estimated 11,000 American jobs; forcing the military to allow troops to undergo gender reassignment surgery; and forcing federally funded institutions to allow biological men who identify as transgender to compete alongside biological women, among others. He is reportedly pursuing an immigration plan directed toward reopening America's borders. He has staffed his Cabinet by intersectional box-checking.
Biden's policy is indeed radical. But because Biden is presented as a normal person, we're supposed to ignore all of that. We're supposed to simply be grateful for the "return to normalcy" -- complete with caving to the teachers unions that seek to keep schools closed indeterminately, reentering a long-dead deal with the Iranian theocracy, firing government staffers with whom he disagrees and lying openly about the vaccine distribution plan he inherited.
Meanwhile, our media pat themselves on the back. It's rare to see a profession declare itself irrelevant, but that's what many in the media are doing these days. According to Stelter, it's "refreshing" that Biden's team promises accountability and transparency. According to Margaret Sullivan of The Washington Post, the media must learn their lesson from the Trump era and cover Democrats more sycophantically.
Joe Biden may be a relatively normal guy. But none of this is normal. And pretending it is represents just another way for the media to reject legitimate criticisms of an administration seeking radicalism right off the bat.
Shapiro is an annoying nevertrumper.
Shapiro is a modern day William Kristol.

BINGO!
the little neocon twirp fought against Trump every chance he got. He is the wrong direction and supports GOPe types.
I wouldn't give you $10 for him.
Biden tailors his politics to his vaunted "family values" even though:
<><> his son Hunter was thrown out of the Navy for being a crackhead
<><> Hunter abandoned his wife and children and moved in with his brother's widow;
<><> a nude Hunter was caught on tape pleasuring himself as Joe's grandaughter watched;
<><> at least one Biden brother is under criminal investigation in a health care fraud;
<><> Joe says he met his wife Jill on a blind date;
<><> Jill's ex-husband says they were still married when Joe bedded down Jill;
<><> Joe flaunts his Catholicism:
<><> Joe is a cafeteria Catholic---picks and chooses only beliefs that get him elected;
<><> Everyman Joe wears a $10,000 Rolex watch to sign E/O's that obliterate the rights of middle-class Americans.
Little Frodo Shapiro did his part during primary season to get Trump labeled a misogynist woman abuser, with the Michelle Fields incident.
“ But his biggest weakness has always been his communication style. It is simply terrible. Fortunately, I ignore what ALL politicians say - even trump. All I care about is what they do. And Trump even outdid Reagan...”
Is this about Ben Shapiro it is it about you?
Ben Shapiro drove a lot of non thinking people away from Trump. He hasn’t and will not do what MRk Levin has done and listed what he did not like and refutred those things, brushing them aside and stating what is good about Trump.
You and Shapiro go by an illogical perhaps ‘feeling’ aspect to what you don’t like about Trump.
You behave as if it is a beauty pageant where the contestants are non important.
What people like you fail in is critical thinking so you lose people of all sides. No one knows what you will feel next.
Here is the reality- whoever is in the Presidency has one job to do. It takes about three minutes to state once and for four years what it is.
This is the same job as any Senator to Private First Class. It is to protect and defend the constitution of the US. That means reading it, knowing it and executing the job of defending it.
You and Ben Shapiro and about 95 percent of my unthinking, feeling women in my work, extended family and friend community Talk about Trump’s manner and it means nothing.
People Will agree with you but it is just to shut you up because when they disagree with you you get angry in whatever form that takes.
I suggest that the anger comes From the embarrassment of having been caught being stupid. One friend who will not speak to me now said after talking to me she felt like a dum dum.
That’s because that for the fifth year in a row I had enough of hearing how Trump has a big mouth. She said again after many months that she and her family are angry that Trump lost the election by shooting off his big mouth. That I should read how lindsy graham was so complementary toward trump.
I will tell you what I told her
Lindsey graham is of the group who complement trump just to lure people in then he turns on him bringing everyone along (Shapiro is in this group whether he means to be or not). Graham has done zero with his position going back to disappointing us in the same way in the Clinton impeachment
Trump is the only person in government, a government which has failed us completely, who has done anything with his position toward doing what he is supposed to be doing.
And one more thing.
This is important so listen to this:
Trump won with 75 million votes. That is 10 million votes more than he received in 2016, when I, yawning, knew he would win as I listened to all the perfect people criticizing him without a bad word for Obama who was the person who proved and continues to prove, as does his staff and wife, that he not only does not protect and defend the constitution but acts out and rules against it.
People love Donald Trump and the votes for him by way more than the first time AFTER having gotten to know him.
So when your criticism of this great man goes flat among those unfortunate enough to have to hear your disgusting blather, you can Look at this, re read it and know that we the people are done. Completely finished Mx listening to people complain about Trump.
Everybody, and I mean everybody, feels the need to begin any coverage of him with the virtue signal of acknowledging that Trump is kind of a pig, BUT. I just don’t get it. He simply is a straight shooter, who doesn’t wear a phony personality most of the time like most politicians. It just ticks me big time.
First, you missed my point. Second, you completely misjudged where I’m coming from - I believe in facts over feelings - and third, you were incredibly insulting in your response.
My point was that, as a long time listener to Schapiro, I saw him come around, just like I did. That was it. And it was based on what he DOES. Facts.
Please, try to leave the personal attacks out of the post and I’ll read them with more thoughtfulness. Thanks!
just because someone is boring.?doesn’t mean they are not evil or corrupt.
I believe the words used to describe Adolph Eichmann
by Hannah Arendt were, “the Banality of Evil”.
“ Everybody, and I mean everybody, feels the need to begin any coverage of him with the virtue signal of acknowledging that Trump is kind of a pig, BUT. I just don’t get it. He simply is a straight shooter, who doesn’t wear a phony personality most of the time like most politicians. It just ticks me big time.”
I agree so completely.
What is it with people needing to qualify Trump as a perfect person
It is despicable. I lost a friend this week over it she did not want to hear me say I’ve had enough of the insults against Trump- until she reestablishes a connection. I don’t care anymore. People don’t do the same toward any other politician and they are all corrupt. Trump is not corrupt
He did not lose The election with his personality.
He did not lose the election at all
But people voted for him way more that previously after getting to know him.
I am so over hearing it.
Incredibly insulting whatever
People have had enough of the Trump virtue signaling
When you criticize his personality keep in mind that he is loved. 10 million more voted for him after getting to know him
And the only thing anyone needs to criticize him for is the job he is doing
THINK about what his job is and answer whether or not he is/ was doing it.
That is all anyone needs to say about him
We’re done.
If you said to anyone on this board what you said toward Trump, “ But [your] biggest weakness has always been [your] communication style...”
it would be a personal attack. Because it is.
Trust me. People are done with the anti trump senseless unexplainable pointless mob like nasty illogical criticism. Try it out elsewhere and see.
During the 2016 campaign and the early days of the administration he was repulsed by Trump, mostly for the usual reasons (confrontational style, possible Trojan horse liberalism, etc.).
But as time went by and he saw what President Trump was accomplishing, he did a 180 and became one of his biggest supporters.
I will never fault someone for coming to their senses.
I thought you were done... ;)
There is a big difference between discussing the strengths and weaknesses of our elected representatives and discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the folks you’re talking with in a public forum. ;)
I’m not being anti-trump. I’m acknowledging his weaknesses and also pointing out his strengths. And the strengths are huge.
The only thing that concerns me about Shapiro is that my wife mentioned a few days ago that he was coming down hard on something Trump was doing. I don’t remember what, but it gave me pause.
Trump’s election completed my full divorce from anything Michael Medved, though.
We do not need to discuss Trumps strengths and weaknesses. We don’t discuss these things about anyone in DC as we clearly do not it is only about Trump
Trump won this election in a landslide way more than before.
Now. You can bring this to someone else just as finished with this crap as I am, I could go all day. You won’t get anywhere. I am done.
We do not need to discuss Trumps strengths and weaknesses. We don’t discuss these things about anyone in DC as we clearly do not it is only about Trump
On a side note, are you actually arguing that we don’t discuss those things about other in DC? Seriously? I’ve opined on the weaknesses of a lot of democrats ‘till I’m blue in the face.
I think you have me mixed up with someone else. BTW, I agree that Trump won in a landslide.
“Opinions vary” People’s opinion on Trumps personality are completely irrelevant, note he won re-election in a landslide.
Test this crap on someone else and check the response. People are done Roth it.
