For nearly a year it was the Trump show. Now President Joe Biden is calling up the nation’s top scientists and public health experts to regularly brief the American public about the pandemic that has claimed more than 425,000 U.S. lives.
Beginning Wednesday, administration experts will host briefings three times a week on the state of the outbreak, efforts to control it and the race to deliver vaccines and therapeutics to end it.
Expect a sharp contrast from the last administration’s briefings, when public health officials were repeatedly undermined by a president who shared his unproven ideas without hesitation.
“We’re bringing back the pros to talk about COVID in an unvarnished way,” Biden told reporters Tuesday. “Any questions you have, that’s how we’ll handle them because we’re letting science speak again.”
The new briefings, beginning just a week into Biden’s tenure, are meant as an explicit rejection of his predecessor’s approach to the coronavirus outbreak.
President Donald Trump claimed center stage and muddled the message of the nation’s top public health experts in the critical early days of the virus and eventually largely muzzled them as the pandemic’s mortal toll grew steeper.
The new briefings are part of Biden’s attempt to rebuild public confidence in institutions, particularly the federal government, with a commitment to share the bad news with the good.
“I’ll always level with you about the state of affairs,” he said Tuesday, repeating a central pledge of his inaugural address.

I heard that Joe is promising 100 million vaccines in the next 100 days.
So glad to hear the ramping up. Under President Trump they were only doing 1 million a day.
But only 67 million NEW people will be vaccinated because the other 30 million Trump took care of. Biden is a flop on vaccinations.

Something very strange with that family...
The ironic thing is that my friend's parents decided that they wanted to come down and visit the family the day after New Years because they were getting lonely after nearly a year of not letting anyone visit them. My friend picked up his dad and mom at the airport. He said that it was obvious that both of them were sick when he picked them up at the airport, they were hacking away and both were horse. He didn't take off his mask and neither did they while they were in the car. They have their own place in a retirement community in Arizona that they had not stayed at in months, so my friend dropped them off there.
Three days later my friend started developing symptoms and he went and got a Covid test and it came back positive. So he insisted his parents get tested as well and they both were positive and his dad seemed sicker than when they first arrived. His mom insisted that she was not sick even though it was obvious that she had symptoms. But they were both still driving around town together, going to restaurants, and going to the store etc...
So my friend confronted his mom and told her that they should be doing everything that they could to isolate themselves from others and that his kids could drop the things that they needed off for them. And she of course told him that this was not necessary because they were “social distancing” and wearing their masks so others were safe from them while they were out in public.
And there in lies the problem with the bad advice that Fauci, Biden and others are spreading. The masks are nearly worthless but people who are sick believe that they are effective at stopping the spread of the virus, so they run around doing their normal routine, believing that this is just fine. In a normal year people who come down with the flu typically stay home until they are feeling better, but most people with Coronavirus don't actually feel that uncomfortable even some people in their 80s like my friend's parents. It is just that some people like my friend end up getting pneumonia and need medical assistance, and other vulnerable people like my brother-in-law who had brain cancer and was on hospice care end up dying and are counted as “presumptive” Covid deaths even though he never had any symptoms and was never tested.
It is all so back asswards that it is unbelievable.
But - doing the math, under President Trump, in the 35 days that he was president, about 857,000 vaccines were given, on average, each day. (I'm guessing that the early weeks were low, and day 35 it was much better.)
Biden is hoping to do about 1.03 million vaccines a day. I'm guessing that is about the number of vaccines given on January 19th, 2021.
I watched Biden's speech about this. He treats this Covid stuff so harshly in his mask mandates, keeping things shut down, etc.
At the end of his speech he handles his contaminated mask for 2 minutes. Bunches it together, fondles it, (no little girls around due to social distancing) then walks off with it crumpled against his speech folder rather than wearing it.
While this flu is SO political, I do treat it as a threat to my health. My N95 mask comes off and I treat it as contaminated. Once in the car it comes off while only touching the straps. It goes into a paper sack, hands are sanitized, and back home it goes up on a drying rack to be used again in a couple of days. The first week I was nervous (back in February). Now it is just what I do. (see my tagline)
I get it if folks are just using a mask so they can get into the store based on the “rules”. A crumpled up mask from their pocket suffices. Or a bandanna. And that is fine by me.
But some politician mandating mask wearing (or double masks and googles) and then treating them so carelessly - they only show what idiots they are!
At many of Biden's speeches he makes a big show of entering the stage and taking off his mask. And talks about how important masks are. At the end of the speech, he wanders off without his mask. On one video I saw, one of his aides recovers the mask from the lectern.
I know several guys that are almost 80 years old. Their hygiene is lacking. Even without the China Flu I would be leery of handling anything of theirs!

I’m guessing that the number of real voters for Biden was about 65 million. So almost half of folks are morons.
Maybe Resident Codger can get Thomas Dolby to also stand up there so that he can play his electric violin every time Fauci changes a policy point. “SCIENCE!”
