A dentist and lawyer known for her past promotion of the "birther" conspiracy theory regarding former President Barack Obama has sued Vice President Kamala Harris and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to halt former President Donald Trump's impeachment.
Orly Taitz is suing to prevent the Senate from holding a second Trump impeachment trial more than a decade after she first made headlines for launching legal complaints in support of misinformation claiming that Obama was not born in the U.S., a bogus claim that Trump promoted for several years before becoming president.
The new lawsuit was filed Thursday on behalf of the Defend Our Freedoms Foundation, a group that Taitz founded. It claims that going through with the impeachment trial would be illegal since the Constitution states that the impeachment process can be used to remove a sitting president, while Trump already left office when President Joe Biden was inaugurated on Wednesday.

So tired of the birther smokescreen. Obama could’ve been born in Time Square and he still would not have been a natural born citizen. His father was a British royal subject for crying out loud.

Obama. the only president I’ve known who had an entire media correct what he, himself said. He says he was born in Kenya, then he wasn’t. He says his Muslim faith, but he wasn’t.
