With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic seemingly having no end in the near future and confusion on how best to administer the vaccine amid shortages, researchers have been working on new ways to quickly detect when someone has been exposed to the coronavirus.
A research team at the University of California San Diego is developing a test strip sticker that changes colors when it detects SARS-CoV-2 in the wearer’s breath or saliva, according to information CBS obtained from the university in a news release.
Worn on the outside of a mask, over the mouth, the test strip has a blister pack beside it, similar to medication packs where you push the pill through the underlying foil. While the two items may look a bit odd on the mask, a photo shows the blister pack being smaller than a penny.
A new tool for monitoring #COVID19 may one day be right under your nose: color-changing test strips that can be stuck on masks and used to detect SARS-CoV-2 in a person’s breath or saliva. As the person wearing the mask breathes, protein molecules produced from a COVID-19 infection goes through the test strip.
Don’t worry though. Nothing shows up on the test strip automatically.
To see the results, the user must remove the test materials from the mask, then squeeze/push out the contents of the blister pack onto the test strip. If the test strip turns a specific color, it means infection molecules are present.
A spokesperson for the university says the test would be similar to that of a home pregnancy test, with an example of what a positive result looks like. And the strips are not meant to replace standard testing, but will indicate if testing protocols should be done.
Some of the questions posted on Twitter included how long the test strip had to be worn to work, and whether it could detect any of the variants of the coronavirus. Another good question would be why the blister pack has to be worn on the mask.
Jesse Jokerst, professor of nanoengineering and lead principal investigator of the project, said the strips will be tested on positive COVID-19 saliva samples before being used in tests on healthcare workers and patients.
UCSD explained in its news release, because each test strip is expected to cost only a few cents, the invention will be especially useful in “resource-poor settings” and in densely-populated facilities that are high-risk for the spread of coronavirus.
Jokerst said masks are the “perfect ‘wearable’ sensor for our current world,” but could be adapted to be beneficial in the future if the need arises.

THE MASK OF THE BEAST!
The Virus Industrial Complex is alive and well. Too many are making money off it for it to ever go away.
Any new COVID test beats that popcicle stick jammed way up into your nose till it meets a wall.
Here we go again. This will trigger more nutjobbing “big brother” and Nazi Star of David arm bands and tattooing bullcrap.
I thought we now have all those wonderful vaccines that so many freakin’ dumbass sheep are sticking their arm out for a virus that has over a 99% recovery rate.
Why do we need more masks? People are making money off them. Stop buying them people.
It’s refreshing, guido911, that someone is finally standing up for big brother strapping double-ply diapers on our heads, forcing us to lock down, and taking away our right of work/travel. I was afraid Big Brother would might actually back down and allow us to go back to normal...
I am standing up for anything when it comes to Covid because I am not a freakish conspiratorial nutcase. Why? Because I know loads of people died, and I know how serious it was because I had it.

Health clinics here are now using a saliva test for Covid-19. It’s just as accurate as the nasal swab.
“I know how serious it was because I had it.”
How bad was it in your case?
Are in development?
Following the money?
So we can expect headaches from false and failed color changes in my non-expert opinion.
In the meanwhile, I’ll continue to deal with viruses with daily vitamin D3 dietary supplement and eating foods with zinc.

Regarding unpopular, politically correct lockdowns for example, patriots need to work with their state lawmakers to establish the following checks and balances on state lockdown powers, particularly to prevent activist states from using lockdowns to oppress the people for political purposes like Democratic-controlled states did for 2020 election year pandemic imo.
State constitutions need to be amended to put time limits on quarantines.
State constitutions also need to be amended to make state health officials elected by popular vote.
Constitutionally time-limited lockdown need to automatically trigger special recall elections for governors, mayors and health officials who order quarantines, also state lawmakers.
Finally, constitutions need to require people planning to run for state and local offices to escrow a refundable "recall deposit" before becoming a candidate, the deposit fully paying in advance for their possible recall elections if they are elected, amounts determined by law.
Here's a start.
Pa. lawmakers speed bill to limit a governor’s disaster powers
Also, states need to start using a combination petition / special recall election form so the people define the narrative. The idea is simple. When enough legal voters sign a petition then it also becomes a special recall election form for booting politicians that sit on their hands and do nothing.
But patriots will still need to be on their guard regarding how Democrats might abuse such a system.
Consider that the whole country should be run by combination petition / recall forms.
Insights welcome.
Of course we have this. I have met people who think this. This is why it is here to stay. Please realize, the conservative argument is not your personal story nor taking anything away from the seriousness of the SARS. The argument is simply how Corona was manipulated as a crisis for political and monetary gain. "Loads of people" dying means little to most who are enabling the "crisis".
Why not just use those as face diapers?
I am waiting for them to come up with a fart mask
Lawsuits in pre-development...
Exactly...I can hear the tin foil rolling out of the packages already...
