Secret ballot won't save them - if Trump is "convicted", the GOP must be ended.

The whole thing is a farce and everyone knows it. This says more about the state of the GOP than anything else.

And Roberts too. He should preside and make a ruling that its unconstitutional and throw it out for guess what, "Lack of Standing".

If they vote to convict, the new party must form immediately. Trump as the party leader, Pompeo runs for office in 2024.

The election to stand up and fight for just ended, Republicans lost because they would not fight, and many wouldn't fight because they hate Trump and love the swamp system they benefit from.

The GOP had its chance to save our Republic and they purposely blew it. There will be no "free and fair elections" in America's future, so you can just forget about winning the white house.

Has chief justice Roberts formally declared that he will not preside at the Senate trial? I’ve read many times that he will not do it but I wonder if it is just a “some say” type statement.

Or rewritten the laws to make Trump guilty of “something”.

Trump's team should certainly petition SCOTUS to rule that it's a farce. Roberts shouldn't preside (and he won't) because that would give the proceeding an imprimatur that is not justified.

How about no due process. He did not get to defend himself inthe House.

Farce.

They never acknowledged the most serious reason to oppose this. The idea is to drive a political opponent from office—ok, blood sport and all that. But never before has an insurgent party not only seized power but continued to hound that opponent into his private life, threatening his freedom, his family and his supporters. This is banana republic stuff. What you would expect in Chile, say, or Nicaragua.. Where the new guys criminalized the old guys and sought to put them in prison for no discernible crime. Crossing the line.

"You make a good point, and I am a big advocate of looking to history for precedent."

which, if you actually do, shows as many successes for third parties as failures (two each). Successes...Democrats displace Federalists, Republicans displace Whigs. Failures..Bull Moose and Ross Perot. The history of the current tyranny is more like the first two than the second.

The idea of impeachment of a private citizen is ludicrous; so I have to assume the rats have deeper motives. Their idea may be that even a sham impeachment could help set the predicate for a criminal trail in the usual courts of law. In any case the floozies and scoundrels of the media will make a big deal of it however it turns out.

We don’t have much of a 2nd party right now but, regardless, tens of millions will vote for its candidates in the next election - viable, sensible, 3rd party or not. THAT is how you split votes - and now is exactly the worst possible time in history to do that, since the Dems are utterly unconstrained by any shred of decency or the usual check of morality. They aim for nothing less than a 1-party nation...THEIR party, not ours, to be sure. Give them a landslide by splitting the vote like TR and Taft did, and you’ll swear that you’re in a Twilight Zone episode, because it’s going to feel a lot like Nazi Germany very quickly after that (and that’s if we’re lucky - it may happen before then if they get truly greedy for power, and there are signs that they are).

BTW, here’s my response of a few minutes ago to a GOP email begging me to renew my expired membership (i.e. my contributions to them):

“Yeah, well, I meant it to expire, and it is going to stay that way.

Today’s news that ONLY 29 out of 50 Republican Senators think that the 2nd impeachment of Donald J. Trump is such a complete sham that the Senate shouldn’t even hear the case. So, what happened to the other 21?

THAT is why I have left the Party, after having been a member since I started voting in 1980.

Good bye, and good riddance, you useless bunch of cucks.”

I think you are right. After all, they impeached him in one day, no witnesses, no presentation of evidence, no defense, just gassy speeches and then a vote. A true parody of a real trial.

without the United States supreme Court chief justice presiding over the alleged Senate trial this whole thing is a farce.

The Constitution is very clear, "When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside..." Since POTUS is not being tried, the CJ is not involved.

Why is this even be discussed when Chief Justice John Roberts won’t participate but is required to, constitutionally?

No, he isn't. Please see my reply #76.

Failures..Bull Moose and Ross Perot.

You are perhaps incorrect in labeling these as failure. TR had loyalty only to the ‘Progressive’ movement and to himself. Theodore Roosevelt stopped the less ‘Progressive’ Taft from re-election.
Similarly, Perot folded as soon as William Blythe ‘Clinton’ showed a lead over George H. W. Bush, which was his main objective. If Perot cared about protectionism, he would have been highly visible as an opponent of NAFTA, like Patrick Buchanan. Or maybe the enemedia just didn’t report anything Perot said or did after Bush was defeated.

Even that corrupt POS Roberts is saying no!

Don't know what the CJ's comments are about this, if any. Makes no difference as he won't be involved. Please see my reply #76.
