Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is fighting efforts to convict President Trump in the Senate after he was impeached for a second time by the House of Representatives, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., should do the same, Graham told Fox News’ "Hannity" Tuesday.
"What we need right now is Sen. McConnell to unequivocally say the second impeachment of Donald Trump after he leaves office is not only unconstitutional, it is bad for the country," said Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Stand up and fight back."
Graham praised McConnell for helping President Trump with "everything that he did" and referred to the majority leader as a legislative "street fighter."
The senator extended his call to all Republican members, emphasizing the alleged unconstitutionality of pursuing a conviction after Trump has left office.
"Our country needs to heal," he said. "A second impeachment of Donald Trump after he leaves office won’t heal the country, it will further divide the country.
"As to the Republican Party, if we throw in the towel, or are perceived to having thrown in the towel, and not fighting against this impeachment, the Republican Party, as Rand Paul said, will ‘crack up.’"

Finally some reality. It’s not just about Trump, it’s about the whole concept of the GOP and about functioning as a unified political party. At least there’s some blowback now against people like Liz Cheney.
And as for McConnell, I think he singlehandedly lost Georgia for the GOP by pulling that stunt of refusing to approve the $2000 at the very last minute. The Dems were on the air immediately afterwards, promising that if people voted Dem, they’d get the payment. Interview after interview has shown that this influenced the voters. He had to have known that.
He shot his own party in the foot and lost the Senate.
Graham is not playing good cop. He is just another dirty cop protecting another dirty cop by selectively pretending to do his job.

Nothing he said supports Trump.
Fake "rule of law" argument, thta timing is a procedural error - can;t impeach after somebody has left office. As a matter of precedent this is flat false. The senate can do whatever it wants in this regard, and the constitutional argument follows the action or the precedent.
And then the "heal" argument.
True to form, Hannity is there with the 99% good federal government and 100% good Graham.

Graham knows the Republican party will be guarantee to be no more if the Republicans impeach the President.
Or Biden will promise to pardon Trump under certain conditions.....

Well they should be concerned about a new party. After decades of self-serving party leadership, the chickens are going to roost elsewhere. The Republican Party rose up suddenly, and the Patriot Party will do the same. Party’s over.

Comey suggested that. An acquaintence of mine who is a brilliant man suggested the same - he managed to get through Limbaugh's call screener and make this suggestion.
His logic is that it puts Trump in the rear view mirror and makes Biden appear magnanimous. "Healing" sort of idea. Versus indicting Trump or otherwise exacting vengence will make Trump a martyr and rally the people to favor Trump.
