In late December, scientists in California began searching coronavirus samples for a fast-spreading new variant that had just been identified in Britain.
They found it, though in relatively few samples. But in the process, the scientists made another unwelcome discovery: California had produced a variant of its own.
That mutant, which belongs to a lineage known as CAL.20C, seemed to have popped up in July but lay low till November. Then it began to quickly spread.
CAL.20C accounted for more than half of the virus genome samples collected in Los Angeles laboratories on Jan. 13, according to a new study that has not yet been published.
“We had our own problem that didn’t cross over from Europe,” said Jasmine Plummer, a research scientist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, who worked on the new study. “It really originated here, and it had the chance to start to emerge and surge over the holiday.”

G, who would’ve thought viruses mutate. I could’ve told you that, and so kind of most everyone else on this website, but the liberals and their “expert” scientists said it wasn’t possible now if we just wore masks the virus will disappear.

Yes, yes they do. Replication is never perfect and very rarely is a mistake in favor of whatever is being replicated.
I heard it quickly reduces the IQ of those infected. But there are so many in CA already with low IQ’s, they’re having a difficult time distinguishing between those infected with those who are not. It’s causing tremendous chaos.

No doubt about that. In fact, an ER doctor not too long ago was interviewed and he specifically cited the Hispanic population in CA as being spreaders. They come and go through the border, many live in multi-family homes, they are service workers, etc. I believe he said that they are by far the most hospitalized because they wait until they are extremely ill, In fear of being deported, thus working and spreading COVID.
