WASHINGTON - President-elect Joe Biden plans to unveil a sweeping immigration bill on Day One of his administration, hoping to provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status, a massive reversal from the Trump administration’s harsh immigration policies.
It provides one of the fastest pathways to citizenship for those living without legal status of any measure in recent years, but it fails to include the traditional trade-off of enhanced border security favored by many Republicans, putting passage in a narrowly divided Congress in doubt.
Expected to run hundreds of pages, the bill is set to be introduced after Biden takes the oath of office Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the legislation and granted anonymity to discuss it.
Under the legislation, those living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021, without legal status would have a five-year path to temporary legal status, or a green card, if they pass background checks, pay taxes and fulfill other basic requirements. From there, it’s a three-year path to naturalization, if they decide to pursue citizenship.
For some immigrants, the process would be quicker. So-called Dreamers, the young people who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children, as well as agricultural workers and people under temporary protective status could qualify more immediately for green cards if they are working, are in school or meet other requirements.

They know it will result in a permanent Democrat majority, too.

If there are only 11 million, then make that the law - only 11 million will be given amnesty and citizenship. Anything above that number gets deported.

Pravda couldn’t even say “a massive reversal from...immigration policies.” They had to throw the word “harsh” in there despite the fact that we had the most generous LEGAL immigration policies in the world.
The GOP RINOS helped to make sure that the Democrats ended up as the only legitimate political party now in existence. The Democrats don’t even have to cheat to win elections, anymore! The GOP, officially, died, on January 6, 2021, along with capitalism and conservatism.
This is meaningless. The United States as we know it will not exist in 8 years.
When the GOP abandoned economic nationalism in the 1990’s the USA’s fate was sealed.

Democrats don’t want to actually finalize people’s immigration status. They want a permanent underclass, so helping people to be fully legal would only begin a process of integration.
What they don’t want is immigrants becoming patriotic citizens, they want to keep everyone afraid of deportation and dependent on them for handouts while insisting they have the right to vote as residents in the United States.
What Amnesty will do, is encourage more to try to come here.
