Your reference to statehood as “a power grab that caters to the overwhelming welfare/food-stamp dependent class in order to stack congress in favor of Dems.” is what led me to imagine you referred to DC’s black population. In DC, the “welfare/food-stamp dependent class” is overwhelmingly black. However, as the most recent DC Constitution vote of 70+% was taken when the population has become 1/2 white, then the statehood support is more than just black or poor.
As to retrocession to MD, this has been floated by some politicians in both MD and DC. My read on outcome once the public reacted is “it ain’t gonna happen.”
Direct Federal control was the state until 1973 when DC won Home Rule with 30 day oversight for Congress to overrule DC Council legislation.
Thats what I thought too.
A state can be admitted by a simple congressional vote [ and I am not sure if its 2/3’s vote or not]...but not DC because it was created differently and enshrined in the Constitution under different circumstances.
How about the conservative areas of some states become states on their own? I don’t know how this could be accomplished, but it would give us more Republican (we hope conservative) senators and reps.
USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. She was launched in 1797, one of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and the third constructed.
“John Roberts says you don’t have “standing” to complain.”
Then I suppose it is pointless to stand around and complain.
Below you will find the description of the only constitution which still is operational.

Yep.
He betrayed Trump the entire term. He kept the Senate in session to prevent Trump making recess appointment. The guy is an all around POS, owned by China to boot.
