Analysts raise EU carbon price forecasts after bull run

LONDON - Analysts have raised their European carbon market average price forecasts for 2021 and 2022 after record highs this month on growing confidence in the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) and soaring gas prices that drove up the cost of carbon permits.

EU Allowances (EUAs) are expected to average 39.24 euros a tonne in 2021 and 46.24 euros in 2022, according to a Reuters survey of eight analysts. That is up 3.6% and 11.1% respectively from forecasts in October.

The price of EU carbon permits has risen almost 40% since the beginning of November on momentum that built ahead of European Union leaders’ December agreement on a more ambitious emissions reduction target for 2030.

The ETS scheme caps the emissions of about 12,000 power plants, factories and airlines.

“There has been renewed confidence in the ETS as a climate policy tool, and optimism that the more ambitious 2030 target will continue to be a supportive factor,” said Refinitiv analyst Ingvild Sorhus.

The analysts said that market reforms to help the EU meet its tougher target will continue to push prices higher.

I can print out some carbon credits if they want to buy some. I can print out a carbon credit big enough to send
Erf into another ice age.

When I dive down to the core of any problem I face, at the bottom is a rule, law, policy that is creating it. Why are rents so high? Landlords are required by law to use a plumbing, roofing, electrical, or airconditioning contractor to fix anything that goes wrong. Knowing they have the market sewed up, they generally charge at least $150 just to come out and take a look. I can fix leaks in the roof. I can fix a leaking sink. I can can find and fix the cause of a breaker that keeps throwing. But I am required by law and under financial penalties to call a contractor. All of that goes onto the rent. (Oh, and while I was on hold with the taxing authority a cheerful recording told me how the politician speaking had created a sewer system for his voters, all without raising taxes. They did raise taxes. But only on landlords. Again, added to the rent.)

These carbon credits are legalized theft.

If I announce that I’m a carbon credit collector, do I get the loot?

Carbon Credits are something that the liberal Democrats and GOPe RINOs agree on. I believe that to some extent we are already seeing them here in terms of quotas on electrical cars that American manufacturers have to make.

The only people that will make out on this are speculators and the politicians they payoff to keep the scam going.

Al Gore hasn’t been making enough money in the credits scam.

The whole idea seems so asinine to me. A company can ‘pollute’ as long a they pay or trade credits.
What’s the point other than a scheme for someone to make money at..?
