Gen. Milley key to military continuity as Biden takes office
AP ^ | 17 Jan 2021 | Robert Burns

...Joe Biden will inherit Milley as his senior military adviser, and although Biden could replace Milley, he likely won’t....

...The chairman of the Joint Chiefs does not command troops but advises a president and a secretary of defense on approaches to major military problems....

...Milley seems amenable to the prospect of Biden seeking to find savings in defense budgets. “We in the Pentagon, civilian and military alike, have got to do a quick reality check on the national budget and what is likely to happen in the not-too-distant future,” Milley said recently. “I suspect that at best the Pentagon’s budgets will start flattening out. There is a reasonable prospect that they could actually decline.”

there's a hint at the direction. Milley was the one who advised Trump against putting troops on the streets of the Capitol in response to Floyd protests. But he will keep troops on the streets for Biden?

Milley needs to be relieved of command.

All true Milley isn’t in charge of anything. AP is whistling past the graveyard. Trump isn’t turning shite over to Joe Biden.

Milley said he regretted walking across the street with President Trump in the aftermath of the BLM / Antifa types trying to burn down the church.

Milley went on to say that he would never again pose for a photo with President Trump.

Another corrupt high ranking military type.

Every Democratic president during my 33 years in the military industrial complex, ran the military out of spare parts and bullets and bombs. After GWB won the presidency,
long before he was sworn in, he called the CEO’s of all the bullets and bomb makers and asked them to please go to around the clock production. I was at GD and the CEO sent around an email stating he has spoken to the president elect and we were going to three shifts. GWB would negotiate the price after he took office. (He did.) But that was how desperate the military was after 8 years of Clinton.

The world is so dangerous now, we can’t afford 8 years of any liberal.

I remember that.

I also remember him going after Eddie Gallagher way beyond what the situation warranted IIRC. He was also angry about Trump commuting (pardoning?) Gallagher.

The man has soiled his uniform. He’s a disgrace.

So 6 or 7 governors just agree to send their NG troops to DC because the Dem mayor of DC asked?

Generals send Stryker battalions roll interstate on this basis? Miles of 8” fencing are erected, with razor wire on top?

5 ton snow plow/dump trucks nose to tail blocking avenues all around DC, as if expecting barrier-crashing large VBIEDs?

There are 100 new checkpoints around DC, bridges are closed, ID is demanded of traffic in and out of DC?
All cooked up between the mayor and surrounding governors? I don’t buy that.

IMHO orders are coming from higher, but the higher is not Trump, the lamest of lame ducks, 2X impeached, with days to go.

So, who is the overall higher authority putting this DC militarization together in a coordinated plan, and getting dozens of NG generals to sign off on what these generals consider valid op orders?

These are orders that LTCOL adjutants bring in for the commanding generals’ hand signature. It’s not done over the phone or by email.

It’s a freaking mystery to me. But if we knew who was upstream of those orders sending 30K troops to DC, we’d have an idea of WTF was actually going on.

At this point, I don’t.

Is Milley coordinating it all? Did Trump sign some general order authorizing the JSC to send as many NG to DC as they deemed necessary?

Lame duck or not, the military has to obey the President’s orders. Trump authorized this.

As a Weapons Officer on an AEGIS Cruiser, we had to raid units in their workup cycle to deploy.

When a deployed unit returns, they’re supposed to be a surge asset for two months. When we returned, the next BG raided us to the point we weren’t even capable of getting underway.

A JCS Commander should not act the way he has.

“... we had to raid units in their workup cycle to deploy.”

Often I had to quote equipment formerly made by other manufacturers who, for lack of spares orders, had gone out of business. It’s actually very difficult to build complex equipment even if you are handed the tooling. Often there are things you need to know that are not given to you. There are parts that have gone obsolete and you have to redesign something with little understanding about how it works and what the data you get really means.

This is one reason why our government sells so much of our equipment to “allies.” (That’s in quotes because often times there are people on that side yelling about killing Americans.) The idea is to keep the production lines running. If the orders dry up, the companies lay off staff and sometimes close and sell facilities that will require huge investments to reproduce one the spares orders restart.

Congress controls a police force larger than the whole Atlanta police department. The congressional police force’s job is to protect a few buildings in DC.

That’s it.

I’m guessing they’re the group that’s put out the call for help.
