[Awesome. So “moderate” Democrat Joe Manchin supports muzzling Trump because he thinks that will make voters more likely to support the Republicans Manchin likes.]

He doesn’t *like them* like them. He just figures they’re completely on board with the Democrat agenda - just a little further down the road.

What never ceases to amaze me is how poorly the Democrats actually understand those who voted for Trump. They think every Trump supporting was a raging fanboy who went to every rally they could fine, etc..

What they don't seem to realize is that a huge number of Trump supporters were just people who may not have been huge fans of Trump himself, but really liked that he was standing up to the leftists. Less pro-Trump than anti-Left.

Every single bit of this that they do -- the social media muzzling, the sneering by elites, etc., drives those people even further away from Biden, and from anything that looks even vaguely like the Democrat party. We supported Trump by default because he was the only guy standing between us and our perceptions of the left. The more of this they engage in this kind of crap, the more they convince us that anything that stands up to the left is acceptable.

They are the ones who radicalized a whole bunch of people who initially weren't all that thrilled with Trump in 2016. We only became fans of Trump because of how they reacted to him, and to those who voted for him.

They just do not understand that at all.

free speech is protected and political speech is afforded the highest protection. All of this will eventually make it’s way to the supreme court in the coming years and end with conservative victory for free speech.

You know, I was hoping that Manchin would defect to the GOP. But I don't want any more stupid people in the Republican Party.

Manchin has always been a way for McConnell and the GOPe to keep their numbers down in the Senate by claiming he was essentially a Republican and Manchin was smart enough to take advantage of that. Now that the Republicans are in the minority and no longer need Manchin, he's free to be the RAT he truly is.

The election was stolen. The election was stolen.

Everything else is BS.

Trump will not live long if he steps down.

The enemy foreign and within will see to that.

Joe M, the “moderate Dem” shows that he is moderate only compared to the other Dems...violate Trump’s Constitutional rights is fine....scratch any Dem, find a person who hates the Constitution for the freedoms and rights it gives the the ordinary citizens...soon to be subjects.

They understand it perfectly. They’re just trying to reform Trumpers by persecuting them out of existence. How do you think Islam overcame the incumbent religions in pretty much every territory ever overrun by Muslim conquerors? A mixture of the stick of exemplary massacres* accompanied by the carrot of acceptance for the converted. I think what they’re missing is the fact that this election is remarkable with respect to how narrow Biden’s victory was, given its historical analogues:

They are spiking the ball when they should be worrying about whether they will be politically annihilated in 2022 and 2024.

* The Democrats’ problem is that actual massacres - which would work - are not an option for them.

I like the way you think. Indeed,I published a comprehensive analysis of presidential race "closeness" where I focused on the margin of victory in states that mattered vs the popular vote.

When done that way, Biden's win* was amongst the closes since the Civil War. His collective winning* margin in AZ, GA and WI of 42,918 is thinner in raw numbers than Trump's of 77,744 margin in 2016 and as a percentage of close state total votes and the entire national vote. Indeed, Biden's national and state-based margins are more like Kennedy and Truman vs a national mandate like Reagan or (believe it or not) Nixon in 1972.

And, as you note, this is after a global pandemic and massive economic devastation and a helicopter-drop of Mail-in ballots.

Trump's 2016 win may not have been massive either - it was akin to Carter and Hayes - but the man built an incredible coalition in 2020 of people from all races, walks of life etc. This, as you note, is likely why the coattails were strong despite a national loss* of historical closeness.

There is plenty about which to worry, but this shouldn't be on that worry pile.

This is a small example of what angers and frustrates me about the left AND the Never-Trumpers. They portray people who support and voted for Trump as mindless, brainwashed drones who if only Trump were removed and silenced, we would “come to our senses”. How insulting and condescending. And dismissive of who we are.

[The national popular vote is not a legit, Constitutionally-loyal way of determining how “close” is an election. ]

When you look at the historical analogues re outlier events that put the incumbents at a severe advantage, such as the Spanish Flu election of 1920 and the Great Depression election of 1932, I think it’s clear that Biden squandered the possibility of obtaining an actual popular vote mandate (Harding’s 26% in 1920 and FDR’s 28% in 1932) rather than a purely rhetorical one (Biden’s 4%). It’s laughable for *any* politician, let alone the president, to claim that beating his opponent by a popular vote margin of 4% represents a political blank check.

Agree completely - and your asterisk is the kicker. Because they can’t massacre us, they’re essentially creating and strengthening their opposition. That’s why I say they don’t get it. They don’t - not yet, anyway - have the power to force us to think as they do. And their silencing of the opposition is having the exact opposite effect that they desire.
