When a handful of new coronavirus cases materialized this month in a province surrounding Beijing — apparently spread at a village wedding party — the Chinese authorities bolted into action.
They locked down two cities with more than 17 million people, Shijiazhuang and Xingtai. They ordered a crash testing regime of nearly every resident there, which was completed in a matter of days.
They shut down transportation and canceled weddings, funerals and, most significantly, a provincial Communist Party conference.
By this week the lockdowns expanded to include another city on the edge of Beijing, Langfang, as well as a county in Heilongjiang, a northeastern province. Districts in Beijing itself, the Chinese capital, also shut down.

That’s the equivalent of locking down one major metropolitan area. So imagine New York locked down and the rest of the country fine. Not a bad tradeoff.
It seems that lockdowns often just delay the inevitable, and until a vaccine is proven to prevent infection then emphasis upon being healthy (unlike most of America) and only quarantining those who are not (obese, diabetic, hypertensive) while the rest go about their work and exercise (which most all should be exhorted to engage in)would be a better response.
Much like what the msm has been spewing for the past 5 years.
And amazingly they only have 4 cases. /s
Whoa! I thought all the libs told us that China had this under control, that if the US only did things like China, we’d all be out of this mess by now?
That’s part of the problem, even here on FR. We have been so laser focused on the United States, we are often missing the global picture.
Beijing is still locking down areas close to the city. We accept they are not being truthful regarding their numbers, but lockdowns tell a lot regarding what is going on.
China came out yesterday and said they had their first corona death since May 2020.
How does anyone take china seriously.
You can practically hear the NYT tears of admiration hit the floor.
BTW Chinese New Year is less than a month away. A year ago millions of Chinese left their homes and spread the Wuhan Flu around the world. I wonder if the world will be taking any precautions this year? Would you believe a tourist from Wuhan arriving at your local airport with a certificate from their home town stating they tested negative for Covid?
Trust me, I have colleagues in the EU and Asia, and they're under far worse lockdowns. The lockdowns have proven ineffective, regardless of where they are.
That leaves at least 1.3 billion
