Where’s they find it? Where’s the proof it even left the building? How come there’s no photos of it being carried outside the Capitol building? If her staffers found it, it didn’t go very far and likely never left.

If you rob a bank and you drop the money on your way out the door do you think you won't get charged with bank robbery?

He walked off with it. First mistake. He allowed himself to be filmed doing it. Bigger mistake. His lawyer should try for a plea deal but given the notoriety I doubt they'd be interested.

Did he take it by force and take it from somebody in person or was it just sitting there? What if I went into a room and just picked up a pedestal or chair and lectern and left it in a different room. Your stealing from a bank teller by threat and force analogy isn’t the same.

Ooooh, yah, they must have been in hot pursuit. Also that was furniture, and it wasn't a bank robbery, so your equivalence is false. Though embarrassing the Speaker is apparently a federal offense.

Ah, but he didn’t go for the door or attempt to conceal it or his identity. If anything he boldly showed his face.

This is more like grabbing a bag of chips at the store, carrying the bag to a different aisle, and leaving it there among rolls of toilet paper and packs of paper plates rather than go to the trouble of putting it back in the snack aisle.

Claiming it was anything more based on just this info, is not going to be provable beyond a shadow of doubt. That doesn’t mean there isn’t more and better evidence against him to come, it’s just pointing out this is overeach at the moment.

Glad you are not an attorney.....

The intent is critical.....for your analogy, a bank robber drops money while leaving the bank...It was clearly his intent to steal the money.....

In this case, other than posing for pictures, they are going to have a difficult time proving intent to steal...

However, the manner and the action were incredibly stupid.....

If you walk into someone’s office and roll their chair into the hallway (even in a bank) do you believe that you will be charged with theft of that chair?

How many times do you have to spin around it in to qualify?
