Washington (CNN) — Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser on Monday urged Americans to avoid the city during President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration next week and to participate virtually following last week's deadly domestic terror attack on the US Capitol.
Meanwhile, the National Guard has plans to have up to 15,000 National Guard troops to meet current and future requests for the inauguration, Gen. Daniel Hokanson, the chief of the National Guard Bureau, said Monday. The dramatic increase in troops comes as law enforcement in the nation's capital and around the country brace for further extremist violence amid the transition of power.
Speaking at a news conference Monday, Bowser, a Democrat, stressed that she was concerned about more violent actors potentially coming to the city in the run-up to the inauguration, saying, "if I'm scared of anything, it's for our democracy, because we have very extreme factions in our country that are armed and dangerous."

the recent happenings.. I have no idea how old you are and what you have experienced.... this is something that has not happened before on our soil. the hypocrisy...the bias.... the hate and disrespect.. the anti American attitude.. it comes hard to older folks who know it’s gonna tear us apart.. it already has.
I have not posted anything that should not be posted. If Trump does not prevail, we will be a communist country and we will be excluded from everything. I remember when Castro came into town... that rich country went downhill fast and never recovered. we don’t have an island to swim to.

The National News has many times referred to the last time a President was impeached twice, for Historical Perspective, of course.
From ABC News “And the inauguration will look different from other presidential inaugurations because of last week’s riot, with extremely tight security around the entire capital region. At least 10,000 National Guard troops will be in place by Saturday. Some will be obvious: officers in uniforms, checkpoints, metal detectors, fencing. Some won’t.”
So, for historical perspective, since ABC News doesn’t seem to have any regarding this, when was the last time that 10,000 or more troops were in place in DC??

I am in total agreement with many others who say that President Trump ought to hold his own inauguration. A Trump rally. At the same time as that phony Biden inauguration. With tens of thousands of supporters in attendance.
Naturally it wouldn’t get covered in the piss stream media. But there could be no denying the benefits of such a rally.
DC Mayor’s request for NG had to be approved by the Pentagon since she is not a governor. Don’t know how the MD and VA NG troops were permitted into DC, but were approved and offered by MD and VA governors.
I suspect that would have been in 1968 after Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Fires set in DC recently were small potatoes compared with the fires of ‘68. About 20 blocks of 14th St. NW, burned up. Also a lot of burning on 13th, and 7th streets, big looting on 18th Street, but no burning. In the last decade, those areas of DC are finally recovered or recovering. There were troops with tanks parked in the major circles ready to deal with continued rioting. From what I hear, people in DC were horrified by what was happening at the Capitol, but not the kind of fear we saw in ‘68. Then, looking east from 18th street, a wall of smoke could be seen all along the horizon, stretching from downtown and all the way up the hill.
Yup. I lived in the area right outside DC then. It was exactly as you describe it.
