On the other hand DC does want to be a state, and pays much more in taxes than they get back in grants. Will the Mayor’s inability to get the National Guard moving to protect the Capitol give DC a stronger argument for statehood since only Governors can call for the NG?

Why not cede the remaining half of DC back to Maryland, as was done with the other half, to Virginia, in 1847? That would give appropriate representation in the House to DC residents without carving out two more Senate seats.
