LONDON - Last year tied with 2016 as the world's warmest year on record, rounding off the hottest decade globally, as the impact of climate change intensified, the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service said on Friday.
Scientists said the latest data underscored the need for countries and corporations to slash greenhouse gas emissions quickly enough to bring within reach the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement and avoid catastrophic climate change.
"The extraordinary climate events of 2020 show us that we have no time to lose," said Matthias Petschke, Director for Space in the European Commission, the E.U.'s executive arm.
Scientists who were not involved in the study said it was consistent with growing evidence that climate change is contributing to more intense hurricanes, fires, floods and other disasters.
In the United States, the costs in lives and damage is fast rising, said Adam Smith, a climate scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
"We need another dictionary to help us describe how these extremes continue to play out and unfold year after year," said Smith, who tracks climate-related disasters that cause more than a billion dollars worth of damage.

Well, remember that a week after that figure was released for 2016, the group that did that calculation released the other part of the information - which was that there was a 38% chance of that being so, according to them.
I’m still simply amazed that any politician who promises to steer the climate of the planet to safety gets a single vote. It is without a doubt the stupidest phony pretext for a money grab that I’ve ever seen.
The Global Warming hoax is a great way for the left to seize more power and more money just as they did in response to the phony pandemic.
Invent a crisis;
Promote it relentlessly;
Create widespread hysteria;
Induce people to give up their wealth and freedom in response.

Correction: The mean temperature of earth was not that much different than now but the carbon content of the atmosphere was higher. Which disproves the global warming theory. But hey. Science is racist. Right?
