Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said he witnessed the moment a police officer shot a woman inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and insisted the officer had no other choice.
A pro-Trump mob of rioters rammed their way into the Capitol Wednesday as Congress held a joint session to certify the election results, sending lawmakers into hiding.
Video shows a group attempting to force itself into the House chamber, where lawmakers were present. As protesters were breaking glass on the doors that kept them out to force their way through, a law enforcement officer fired a shot. One woman, Ashli Babbitt, was struck by a bullet and later died.
"When they broke the glass in the back, the [police] lieutenant that was there, him and I already had multiple conversations prior to this, and he didn't have a choice at that time," Mullin told ABC News' George Stephanapoulos on "Good Morning America" Thursday.
"The mob was going to come through the door, there was a lot of members and staff that were in danger at the time. And when he [drew] his weapon, that's a decision that's very hard for anyone to make, and, once you draw your weapon like that, you have to defend yourself with deadly force."
Mullin said police "showed a lot of restraint" and "did the best they could."

From What? An unarmed protester in front of a half dozen police standing behind her with silenced rifles?
Today, Representative Markwayne Mullin, R-OK stated on ABC News that, in reference to the Ashli Babbitt shooting: "the [police] lieutenant ... didn't have a choice at that time..." in shooting her. Ms. Babbitt, a veteran who served four tours of duty for our country -- sent there by the very representatives who vote in that building -- was plain and simply MURDERED. In cold blood. Ms. Babbitt was unarmed and surrounded at the time by Capitol Police. Unarmed trespassing and protest are NOT deadly force infractions. It is incumbent upon you and your colleagues to denounce this murder, and more importantly insist that the perpetrator is arrested and held responsible. To not do so would be a disgrace -- regardless of your politics or concerns about the Trump presidency.
I am truly incensed by Mullin's BS.
Not to mention his wild discharge of a firearm into the crowd could have just as easily killed one of the cops behind her.

There’s not a single freeper who would have said the same thing if the person shot had been an ANTIFA or BLM attempting to break into the House.
“once you draw your weapon like that, you have to defend yourself with deadly force.”
Really? Did he shout out a warning to her? Did the several Police officers who each outweigh her by at least 50 pounds attempt to arrest her? Did he ask the other officers for help? Try shooting at an unarmed person without at least shouting out a warning even if they’re climbing through your window and you’ll end up in handcuffs in most states, especially if the person is half your size and you can physically handle them.
This man must be primaried. No one who supports the murder of unarmed Trump supporters for trespassing deserves to represent Republicans. Let him trying running as a Democrat in Oklahoma. She was murdered climbing through an already broken window—not for threatening anyone, not for having a weapon, not for anything except being where she wasn’t supposed to be.
Yes, the double standard at play here is breathtaking.
That Police officer didn’t have a choice? He had a choice he didn’t have the right to shoot an unarmed Trespasser. He committed Cold Blooded Murder.
Why hasn’t he been named yet.If he was a street Cop and he shot a Black Lives Matter DNC Storm Trooper he would have been I.D.’d in 24 Hours. Even if the shooting was Legit.
Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla.- a name that must be remembered.
She was unarmed.
She had a copy of the Constitution on her???
Why didn’t he just shoot her in the leg. That’s what biden thinks is reasonable.
Spot on.
So let’s see. You have a police officer who shot an unarmed person who was not posing an imminent threat to the life or safety of the officer or any people around her, and you expect the police officer to be charged and convicted of murder? I like his odds.
I remember the time I killed all those people for breaking a glass.
Joke I have had to endure for decades: After a miscarriage of justice such as the guilty slasher murderer of two people—— OJ Simpson, got off by the addled jury “Ha. What are you conservatives gonna do now, trash the country clubs and set the dining room on fire? Ha, ha.”
But WE had to pay higher taxes and higher prices to make up for them looting and burning in the South Central LA, Watts Riots, Detroit 1967, Newark, Rodney King, MLK death, the Trayvon Martin /Skittles, felon Michael Brown justifiably killed in self defense by Officer Darren Wilson and CHOP and other George Floyd riots.
Of course he had a choice. All he had to do was walk to her trying to balance in that narrow space, reach out and give her a push bacwards and voila, the window would have been cleared.
But MarkWayne Mullin is a big brave amateur kickboxer! He ain’t afraid of no girl! (I don’t really need it, do I?)
He had his gun aimed in a different direction. Suddenly, he completely turned the gun in a different direction and immediately shot her. To me, it seemed like he was waiting for someone or something specific, then suddenly he seemed to see what he was waiting for changed direction and shot.
What was the Means, Opportunity and Manifest intent to inflict bodily harm by Ashli?
