The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama is joining other federal prosecutors in declaring an intent on prosecuting people who were in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday intending to commit crimes.
U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona, in a Tweet late Wednesday, said that anyone from within the Northern Alabama district’s boundaries who traveled to the nation’s capital with intent to commit crimes will be prosecuted.
“The attack on our nation’s Capitol strikes at the heart of our democracy,” said Escalona. “If anyone from Northern Alabama traveled to D.C. to commit these criminal acts, then they’ll be prosecuted by the USAO-NDAL to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Northern District includes 31 counties in Alabama, as well as the cities of Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Decatur and Anniston.
The federal prosecutors for the Southern and Middle districts of Alabama have not weighed in as of Thursday morning.
Escalona’s comments come one day after the U.S. Attorney with the Southern District of Ohio issued a similar statement on Twitter, published in national news media accounts, that if anyone traveled from the Southern District of Ohio with intents to commit crimes, they will face prosecution within federal courts.
Erica MacDonald, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, also issued a similar statement on Twitter. “If we can prove you travelled from MN to DC to commit violent criminal acts, then you will be prosecuted by (my office) to the fullest extent of the law.”
Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, in a statement Thursday, said the Department of Justice said that prosecutors “have been working throughout the night” with special agents and U.S. Capitol Police investigators, the FBI, ATF, and the Metropolitan Police Department and the public to gather evidence and to identify perpetrators. He said federal charges will occur where warranted.
“Some participants in yesterday’s violence will be charged today, and we will continue to methodically assess evidence, charge crimes and make arrests in the coming days and weeks to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law,” Rosen said.
The FBI is also seeking information that would help them assist in identifying individuals who participating in the violence in the U.S. Capitol building and surrounding areas.
The agency is requesting anyone who witnessed unlawful violent actions to submit information, photos or videos that could be relevant at fbi.gov/USCapitol, or to contact 1-800-225-5324 to report tips and/or information related to the investigation.
What about Antifa? Will they need to prove intent?
well it depends what the meaning of is is
INTENT? They’re going for intent without actual action?
Are they going to hire The Amazing Kreskin as a professional witness?
Barr appointee.
But the brazen and widespread attack on our Nation’s elections is just okay.
What was their intent smart US Attorney?
No use for federal anything.
another corrupt black robe
Community service groups such as pantyfa and #bm.....meh. Exempt.
Nope. 2 tier system.
All these bastards were dead quiet all summer while cities burned.
Have any of these US Attorneys done anything about Anitfa/BLM crimes committed in their state?
Where was a similar statement by Barr after Nov. 3 about voter and election fraud?
We hear from another chicken.
Show us your mind reading machine prosecutor.
And what Antifa radicals have been prosecuted by the DOJ?
I have serious doubts that President Trump ever had control of the federal bureaucracy.
Yada yada, yada, it only applies to the little fishies. The Big ones are probably plants, and they’ll have multi Soros $$$$$$ behind them to get them off. I never saw a bunch of scroungy Republicans until this occurred. They looked like Antifa radicals. Notice how many clean dressed, normal Republicans are missing? It looks too choreographed for me to bite.
Of course if you were their as a member of ANTIFA or BLM you will not be charged. This more of the BS President Trump was talking about. How many of the “protestors” in Portland were prosecuted? Prosecuting someone based on what you believe was their intent is as bad as anything Hitler or Saddam did.
He never did because he believed in the "all the good people" in government BS.
