Trump savaged all his foes. Cruz got it hard. At the time it had me up and arms but I get it, you are going after the same voters.

I also get why Cruz was slow to bend the knee, but his convention speech was a real dick move, petty.

That said, ancient history as far as I’m concerned.

Weird that apparently nobody made a motion to throw out GA's electoral votes. I still don't buy that Georgia is much more RAT friendly than FL these days, even after the two Senate seats they stole. If GA had been trending RAT before 2020, Stacey Abrams would be Governor now instead of Brian Kemp, and Republicans wouldn't have a comfortable majority in both houses of the legislature. Georgia was ironically much more RAT friendly pre-1994 or so, they elected lots of RATS statewide in the Reagan era.

Abrams did make it the closest race for a Democrat in a Georgia governor’s race since Republicans started winning the office regularly in 2002. This was when Cobb and Gwinnett (the two big suburban counties north of Atlanta) really started to go sideways for us.

A lot of FReepers still claim Ted Cruz (who has been a model conservative in the Senate) a RINO and ineligible to be President for the simple fact he didn't get down on his knees and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?" and sing Trump's praises after Trump beat him in the 2016 primary. To be perfectly objective, Trump was a lot meaner to Cruz in that election (remember calling him an anchor baby and claiming his dad assassinated JFK) than Cruz ever was to Trump.

And then there was Trump tweeting that unflattering pic of Cruz’s wife, which really made things go nuclear between them. It was a bad move on Trump’s part as it gave Cruz a shot in the arm going into the Wisconsin primary. Had Trump won WI, Cruz pretty much would have been out of the game by that point and Trump would have wrapped up the race earlier, likely on more congenial terms with Cruz.

Of course, Cruz has been a loyal Trump ally since Trump got elected, but pesky facts like that don't matter to the Cruz haters on FR. I guess they'd prefer an opportunist like Chris Christie, who did indeed IMMEDIATELY flip-flop and sing Trump's praises once he realized Trump was the unstoppable GOP front runner. In any case, if you look at the wholesale Biden theft this election, it's pretty clear whether you want a real ally like Cruz, or a fake one like Christie.

The Cruz hate was the primary reason I didn’t enjoy a lot of the 2016 primary season. To this day I still don’t click on FR threads with Cruz’s name in the title. (I also believed the polls showing Hillary walloping Trump and spent the remainder of the election campaign in a funk, which did make election night all the more delightful when it went our way)

I also get why Cruz was slow to bend the knee, but his convention speech was a real dick move, petty. That said, ancient history as far as I’m concerned.

I interpreted the speech as a very soft endorsement of Trump at the time, but yeah, the convention’s purpose was to rally the party around Trump and you really can’t go all “well yeah vote for him if your conscience says to, whatevs” if you are giving a major speech at the convention. I also don’t think it’s worth dwelling on.
