Speaker Pelosi’s new House rules package silences the voice of Republican minority

As newly re-elected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi looks forward to the Democrats slim chances of retaining the House again in 2022, she’s using her most powerful weapon as speaker. The move comes with majority influence over the House Rules Committee to weaken the power of Republicans who make up the chamber’s minority.

On Monday, Democrat House Rules Committee chairman Jim McGovern and Speaker Pelosi watched as the House passed the new rules package for the 117th Congress. The bill passed in a 217-to-206 vote and has taken heavy criticism from Republican lawmakers, who have gone so as far as to call provisions in the bill “Soviet style.”

Two of the most criticized aspects of the package include alterations to the MTR or Motion to Recommit, which is a tool minority parties can use to push last minute changes to bills on the House floor before passage.

Republicans will now have to send bills back to committees before passage, which will greatly limit Republican lawmakers abilities to advance the interests of their constituents on specific bills. It’s something that was highlighted by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on the House floor Monday.

“You cannot pass a motion to recommit on the floor unless you have a majority of the people in the body to vote for it,” he stated. “Are you so afraid that you can’t hold people that you oughta’ take it away? ”

Another rule change is new exemptions from PAYGO, or Pay As You Go, provisions. The rule previously kept lawmakers from spending more than the budget allowed by requiring spending cuts in other parts of the overall budget.

However, the new rules offer an exception for PAYGO, but only for programs related to public health and climate change. This is specifically consequential as Democrat proposals like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal come with very large price tags.

Republicans have said it’s a clear indication Democrats are trying to push through the Green New Deal and Medicare for all regardless of the cost.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also took aim at Speaker Pelosi by stating the new rules package is an assault on open debate in the chambers of Congress, one in which he will not forget.

“I will promise you this, two years from today when you are no longer in the majority, we will correct the course of history,” he stated. “Because we are not afraid of debate, we are not afraid of ideas, we believe it makes us stronger.”

This is just the first step in silencing the opposition. Very soon we can expect a revival of the "Fairness" doctrine, which will eliminate most of talk radio.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if sites like Free Republic are someday forbidden.

So the GOP will hamper itself if they get back into power. That will scare them.

Look for another 40 years of democrat House control, Kevin. The GOP porked the pooch during 2016-2018.

It’s a dictatorship, the Nazi Party used a weapon like this to silence the opposition. Democrats have learned well from history.

There is NO Republican Party anymore.

The new Constitution Party is being borne this morning on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.

Say goodnight Mitch. And, take your limp-wristed acolytes with you.

WOW, now that's tough language, perhaps follow up with a sternly worded letter.

get used to it, the DemoNaziCOmmie party’s Puppetmeisters are stealing the election and with it, our country.
Every level of Constitutional safeguard has been (or is being) infiltrated, bought out, blackmailed, or threatened into acquiescence. With violent gangs to enforce, intimidate, and eventually eliminate any honest opposition.
Same techniques as used by the Nazis to take over Germany (Soroz isn’t stupid) and by the Communists to take over Russia. And just like in Weimar Germany, the American Congress is bought out or cowered into agreement. Pelousy is evil as Hell but she’s just one of several key puppets in this coup.

There will not be elections in 2 years, or ever. Oh, there will be fake elections, but as has been demonstrated, voting is irrelevant. When criminal election rigging is completely normal, as it is now, the outcome is whatever the Communist-Rat party wants the outcome to be.

I’m sure they will make elections ‘seem’ normal. The money has to flow to the TV networks and consultants, but the outcome is rigged.

”...the Democrats slim chances of retaining the House again in 2022,...”

Apparently, someone hasn’t quite come up to speed on the new paradigm, and is expecting actual elections come 2022.

I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this—who will count the votes, and how.
