NYT: Pence Said to Have Told Trump He Lacks Power to Change Election Result
NYTimes ^ | 01/05/2021 | Haberman

Vice President Mike Pence told President Trump on Tuesday that he did not believe he had the power to block congressional certification of Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory in the presidential election despite Mr. Trump’s baseless insistence that he did, people briefed on the conversation said.

Mr. Pence’s message, delivered during his weekly lunch with the president, came hours after Mr. Trump further turned up the public pressure on the vice president to do his bidding when Congress convenes Wednesday in a joint session to ratify Mr. Biden’s Electoral College win.

“The Vice President has the power to reject fraudulently chosen electors,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning, an inaccurate assertion that mischaracterized Mr. Pence’s largely formal and constitutionally prescribed role of presiding over the House and Senate as they receive and certify the electoral votes conveyed by the states and announcing the outcome.

Mr. Pence does not have the unilateral power to alter the results sent by the states to Congress.

It the NY Slimes so, the story lacks any credibility. That said, I do not expect the VP to do a damned thing to help our President. I read last week from other more credible sources that Pence plans to retire and leave politics altogether. IE, he’s throwing in the towel and slinking away to live the quiet life in retirement.

Go ahead Pence. See how it feels to unleash civil war you spineless coward. See your name enshrined with every turncoat in history.

These GOPe bass turds truly think “this too shall pass”. They truly believe this will fade and they will get their Bush party back. They have no idea, that THIS is the hill we die on. This is it folks.
They have finally pushed us over the brink.

And damn them all to hell. I was really looking forward to spending this phase of my life traveling, seeing the country, etc. Now half the places are off limits, locked down and now the rest is about to break out in war. Damn them all.

I think Pence can advance the question to the Supreme Court.

Does he have the power to stop the obvious fraud?
Does he not have the power to stop the obvious fraud?

Who can say?
Only the Supreme Court can decide what happens next — if Pence chooses to throw this into uncharted waters.

And the Supreme Court will not “select” the next president.
The Supreme Court will punt and throw this to the state legislatures to make the final decision.

Had No AG. No FBi Director

No Senate

Republican SOS and GA GOV plotted against him.

They want Biden, people.

That’s why GOP Senate never called any of the Biden clan for questioning - in 1,460 days.

Pence has pretended to be a conservative for decades.
However, when it matters most he won’t be there.
Good riddance to Pence.

I told a liberal friend of mine that, if America’s drift into socialism was inevitable, than states have to decide if they want to stay in the union. Socialism violates the 10th, 13th, and 14th Amendments and represents a breaking of the contract for the country as represented by the Constitution

Liberals seem to have a disconnect between the idea of the country going socialist and surviving.

Does he have the power to stop the obvious fraud?

Does he not have the power to stop the obvious fraud?

The Supreme Court rules on cases brought before it. It doesn't issue advisory rulings. So Pence would have to act one way or the other and then have someone take it to court.

Apparently Chuck Grassley just tweeted that he will preside over the electoral college tomorrow as Pence is not expected to be there? WTF? Can anybody else verify this? It sounds crazy.

“I think Pence can advance the question to the Supreme Court”

The USSC has ZERO authority to interfere in State matters. This is the ultimate example of a non-justiceable political question.

Any action by the USSC would be a gross usurpation of power.

Pence has been trying to extricate himself.

Multiple reports say he’s not planning on being there.

Confusion
