My daughter and I were in a local park’s parking lot a few days ago headed to the trail when I heard this really strange and bizarre sounding vehicle coming up behind us. It sounded like a high performance engine, highly muffled and muddy sounding with a lawnmower overtone. Turned out to be an electric car moving slowly with the added noise coming from a loudspeaker to alert pedestrians. I’ve read that some car makers are doing that, but it was the first time I’ve heard one.

Good to hear because I was almost creamed in a parking lot by some kid in a silent electric car, driving like an idiot and whipping around corners without regard to those on foot.
