It took four years and an election defeat. But someone with real power inside the Republican Party is standing up to — and swatting back — President Trump: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Why it matters: This is a preview of the power struggle that will define the Republican Party in 2021.
You saw this with McConnell acknowledging Joe Biden as President-elect.
You saw this with McConnell blocking Trump's push to raise stimulus checks to $2,000, which would have split Senate Republicans. And you're seeing it now with his effort to curtail futile resistance by the GOP to congressional certification of Biden's victory.
Yes, but: Until now, McConnell's strategy was buffeted by the chaos Trump created. Now, the Senate leader — whose autobiography is called "The Long Game" — is finally able to set the party's course.
"McConnell is trying to reclaim the role he had in 2009 — leader of the opposition to a new Democratic president," said a Republican operative familiar with the leader's thinking.
What he's thinking: Depending on the outcome of Tuesday's Georgia runoffs, McConnell will have to find a way to protect — or regain — a Senate majority, in the face of Trump and his operatives promoting candidates who could win primaries but might well lose.
During Trump's presidency, Axios' Margaret Talev points out, McConnell gained from an alliance that yielded 200+ lifetime judgeships — including three Supreme Court justices. As ex-president, Trump carries more liability.
The bottom line: Beginning 19 days from now, McConnell is the most powerful Republican in the land.
Kill the Republican Party first.
Then take that success and build on it.
I sure do hope that McConnell has a way out of the USA either way the chips fall... I am sure he has made plans to vanish if we prevail.

I think the upcoming cancelling of the GOP is pretty much baked in at this point. There is no stopping it from happening. The only good thing that could come of this mess is the destruction of the GOP and the formation of a new America First Party.
Every source has one slant or other - there is no such thing as “unbiased source”, I find wikipedia more fairer than most other sources because both sides can put in their 2 cents.
And as for this particular entry, it’s definitely not a liberal bent. It exposes what a creep this guy is. (but I’m guessing you didn’t read it).
In truth, much of what they’ve done is really suicide...government of elite family graft and kickbacks on a massive scale...but we should definitely push them over edge. The Republican Party literally serves no purpose any longer, “we are not them” is not a purpose, except to enrich its own elite. So they are operating on same plane as the Democrat Party.
The one silver lining in the dark years ahead of us will be watching the mass exodus of voters from the Republican Party. It will be so fast and so massive that the Democrat Party will have to engage in fraud on behalf of the Republicans in order to keep them viable as the “opposition” party!

This is yet another OUTRAGEOUS ACT OF TREACHERY against the American people and OUR PRESIDENT, by greedy, compromised, corrupt, CRIMINAL, politicians.
What other explanation is there for this?
It is so shocking (AND DISGUSTING!) to witness these low lifes go along with THE COMPLETE UTTER PUTRID LIE, that Biden won the election.
After everything this country has been put through, by the treasonous, sell- out Democrats-Now we are subjected to further psychological trauma, at the hands of these greedy politicians who are cooperating with Democrats in a coup to install a thoroughly corrupt, compromised BY THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY, (among others), individual, THAT NO ONE VOTED FOR (Who didn't even campaign), into the presidency.

McConnell, Romney, and the rest of the Republican globalists are horrified at the idea of helping American citizens.
They would much rather send American taxpayer cash to foreign countries.
That is what America Last globalists do.

McConnell would rather lose majority control of the Senate than spend $2,000 per person to help American citizens.
If a suicidal person is about to drive a car, the critical thing for those who are not suicidal is to stay out of that car, in order to avoid losing their lives.
Suicidal person = The Republican Party.
Those who are not suicidal = Patriots.
