We've know that about COVID since the beginning that it can cause severe internal swelling and blood clotting (and therefore lead to heart attacks, strokes, and other serious health events). Not like this is something new.
Clots in the lungs cannot cause a heart attack. That is a false statement.
What likely happened is he was profoundly hypercoaguable. While there is no reference as to where the embolus was I suspect he had a saddle pulmonary embolus.
If you have pulmonary embolus they can be anything from
Insignificant to fatal. It is a letter of what part of the pulmonary vasculature is obstructed. In the event the thrombus is so big that it blocks where the pulmonary artery branches into the right and left pulmonary artery (saddle) then the right ventricle acutely dilates and there is no flow to the left. This is called obstructive shock. Not a heart attack

Embolic coronary ischemia is unheard of. Instead what happens Ian a thrombus forms where a cholesterol plaque ruptures.
The standard of care is either tPa thrombolysis or catheter directed tPA in the cath lab with thrombectomy. Rarely an open pulmonary artery endarterectomy can be performed but this requires immediate access to bypass circuitry snd cardiovascular surgery
This death is certainly due to CoVID
The death certificate should list cardiac arrest due to obstructive shock secondary to CoVid associated thrombosis.
