On Thursday, a teacher who is on the executive board of the Chicago Teachers Union, for whom she serves as an area vice president, reportedly urged special education teachers to refuse to return to work the week after New Years’ Day because it would be unsafe. A few hours prior to that, the teacher, Sarah Chambers, posted a photo on Instagram of a pool in Puerto Rico captioned, “Spending the last day of 2020 by the poolside.”
“We have the whole pool to ourselves,” Chamber’s caption continued. “Then, we are going to old San Juan to get some yummy seafood mofongo. We have an entire Airbnb house to ourselves. I’m here with my friend who also had covid.”
According to WGN, Chambers is “facing criticism for vacationing in the Caribbean while at the same time claiming it’s unsafe for teachers to return to the classroom.” The outlet also notes that Chambers’ post “mentions she previously had COVID, got a negative test result and consulted her doctor before traveling.”
In mid-December the Chicago Board of Education decided to resume some in-school classes in January, but the Chicago Teachers Union was vehemently opposed to the idea. CTU President Jesse Sharkey stated, “This is the most difficult time. Transmission is highest. It’s dark and cold. People are indoors and the holidays are coming, so there’s going to be a lot of transmission.”

did she fly after the 10 day period?? I don’t know but will say she within the 10 day period for the purpose of raising a stink!! You know, like a CNN reporter would.
Well then, if they are covid free then they can certainly be in a classroom instead of poolside.
Well then, if they are covid free then they can certainly be in a classroom instead of poolside.
Your opening quote says friend HAD covid. Then you complain she HAS covid. The article also clearly states she tested NEGATIVE and consulted with her doctor before going on this vacation when most schools in the country are CLOSED for the holidays, so many/most are on vacation pay.
The article specifically concerns NOT having Special Education classes. Special education students may have special problems that make it a lot harder to keep conditions safe. They may be mentally or physically incapable of understanding or observing safe behavior or actions. They may need physical restraint on occasions. They may have more vulnerable health conditions. Special Ed students are a special area of concern, and each needs a well thought out plan for individual treatment, My mother and husband were teachers for many years and one son had to go through Special Ed evaluation and planning. So I have heard a lot about Special Education problems.
People have a right to spend their money as they wish so long as it does not put them on welfare. The tropics is a good place to spend some time in the sun. I sympathize with anyone forced to spend a winter in Chicago. I spent several in Iowa. When my husband completed a college program in the East Coast but could not find a job, he wanted to return to his guaranteed job in Iowa. I told him our marriage would not survive living in Iowa, TOO cold, and TOO hot. I believe that Vitamin D3 deficiency is one cause of severe Covid symptoms. TRopical sun is a good deterent. PR has relatively good Covid statistics and lots of sun.

This is coming to a head here in the NYC metro area because many public school parents understood their children weren’t learning anything in school but they at least had “free” daycare (and often lunches, sometimes even breakfasts) - and now many have been without it for many months. Those public schools are 2/3 of our sky-high property taxes, and we went from receiving little to receiving nothing - but the taxes (and corresponding rents)haven’t fallen.
To cause the education system to work one should not pay for teachers not being in the classroom. This is happening all too often where we are now paying government people to sit at home and not work. Stop their pay and they will open the schools and government offices .... just my opinion
A Chicago Teachers Union leader is facing criticism for vacationing in the Caribbean while at the same time claiming it's unsafe for teachers to return to the classroom.
Sarah Chambers is on the union's executive board and is an area vice president.
As recently as Thursday, she tweeted to rally special education teachers not to return to work Monday because it's unsafe.
Just a few hours earlier, Chambers posted a picture on Instagram that appears to show her pool side in Puerto Rico and talking about going to Old San Juan for seafood.
Chambers was part of that group of commie CTU members who went to commie Venezuela, praising that commie shithole and their school policies, ignoring the fact that something like 20% of the population had fled the starvation conditions.
She is also the rarest of the rare - a CTU teacher who actually got fired:
In 2017, the school district fired her for, as reported by WTTW,
“leaving her own classroom to barge into classrooms of other teachers and issue her own instructions to students, interfering with statewide tests, and participating in a scheme to remove and transport students without any chaperone who had cleared criminal background checks, without alerting school officials which students would be missing from class and which students were unaccounted for….”
However, she claimed she was fired in retaliation for other matters and the CTU got her reinstated
Truly a Karen of the highest order, a dyed-in-the-wool commie, and someone who should be at the very top of a list of people Groot should be firing on 05 January 2021 for subverting the opening of schools.
Glee, I don't mind being criticized over a purely teaching issue, but the more that I find out about the situation, the more that I believe that this public figure is in fact, a hypocrite.
The CTU is a leftist organization that is much more aligned with the Maoists of another generation than anything else in America. That Miss Social Justice is a deep red commie does not surprise me, but it serves to prove that the ones who cry loudest in the unions are the most corrupt.
A special ed teacher getting fired for anything not on video? And then reinstated by the union? Yeah, just another CTU insider that cares only for herself and nothing for students.
