Trump jets back to White House after Republican Senate rebuffs call for $2K COVID stimulus checks

President Trump jetted back to the White House on Thursday after the Republican Senate rejected his demands for $2,000 COVID stimulus checks.

Trump was uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter as he and First Lady Melania Trump left his resort in Palm Beach on New Years Eve day after a week of golf.

There was no immediate word on what Trump’s early pre-holiday return to the nation’s capital might mean for the stimulus logjam on Capitol Hill.

GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell again pronounced Trump’s bigger checks as a non-starter Thursday, saying it amounts to a windfall for the wealthy.

“Socialism for the rich is a terrible way to help those Americans who actually need the help,” McConnell said.

Democratic Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer countered that Americans facing eviction and trying to pay their bills are the ones who will benefit from the increased stimulus.

Democrats believe if McConnell relents, they could amass the 60 votes needed to pass it.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a strong ally of both Trump and McConnell, said Thursday that a stand-alone vote on the bigger checks “might pass” if McConnell allows one.

“I’m with the president on this,” Graham told Fox News.

The checks would be for people making $75 k or less, right?

Is that "rich" in Mitch's vocabulary?

Did Mitch put any income caps on the money he's sending to officials and bureaucrats and organizations in Pakistan and other foreign countries?

What about the billions for defense contracting firms? Any salary and compensation limits on the executives of those companies?

Mitch has sponsored major welfare for the truly wealthy, through the wars and foreign aid and nation-building that he enthusiastically sponsors.

If Americans want a piece of that pie, they have to move overseas and get “in” with the bureaucracies and businesses that receive the aid.

Mitch doesn’t mind cutting federal checks for people - except if those people live in the United States.

You have to be a foreignor , or a defense contractor supplying weapons or gear for foreign wars , to win money from Mitch.

the other terrible part of this is they are going on 2019 income when things were booming..not 2020 when people lost their jobs.

Maybe Mcconnell delaying this until 2021 will then use 2020 income as the measurement

Mitch McConnell does not give sh*t about what is happening to the American people or the consequences in the Georgia elections. Mitch has already been re-elected for another six years.

“...GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell again pronounced Trump’s bigger checks as a non-starter Thursday, saying it amounts to a windfall for the wealthy....”

In other words, Mitch is saying the American people are too stupid to figure out what he just said.....

“Mitch has already been re-elected for another six years.”

Big difference between being a majority leader in the Senate and just another Senator.

I think he is coming home early to do a number on the Deep State. Soon the sound of iron doors slamming shut on domestic thieves, liars, and terrorists is going to ring in the New Year.

Like the Lion on the Wizard of Oz, “Oh, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope . . .”

“Socialism for the rich is a terrible way to help those Americans who actually need the help,” McConnell said.

Uniparty Sen. Mitt McConnell obviously thinks all those super-"rich" Americans are those who make less than $75K annually. LOL. McConnell also believes the only real way to "help those Americans who actually need the help," is to wastefully spend many millions of dollars (of American taxpayer money) on moronic "gender studies" programs in Pakistan which Sen. Mitt McConnell enthusiastically voted for and approved in the recently enacted stimulus "catch-all" $2.3 TRILLION bill.

Absolutely true. Why fight about a few thousand dollars? The Commie-Dems will take everything from us before the next four years are out.

I do not get the stimulus check because I make well more than $75k. And I'm fine with that. Let those who make less get them.

But what I really want is to have the country open up again so that we can get our economy back on track and maybe I can start spending some money again. Right now, it's just piling up with this lockdown nonsense.

yesterday an article was posted that makes a lot of sense about why Mitch would rather be in the minority

boils down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and having the swing votes

Schumer has more money to buy the votes

What the hell is wrong with McConnell? Besides the fact that he doesn’t have to answer to Trump voters anymore that is?

We could start by opening everything up, no restrictions, do it today!

Followed by a constitutional amendment forbidding any taxpayer dollars being sent anywhere outside the US.

That will free up more than enough funds for the govt to right the lockdown wrongs of this past year. Heck I bet we would save ALOT of money in the end.

For those against military spending, I caution against that. A free, strong US military, at the forefront of new development, keeps us safe.

In ancient history you could allow your military to not modernize. One can only make swords so much better, but fall a decade or so behind technology now, and you will loose any encounter you may have.

“But what I really want is to have the country open up again”

I agree. But you notice Congress - including Mitch - didn’t condition their aid to state governments on a demand that they open their economy? The feds are subsidizing a continued shutdown.
