McConnell Blocks $2,000 Stimulus Checks, Then Ties Them To Unrelated Trump Demands On Tech And Election
CNBC ^ | 12/29/20 | Jacob Pramuk

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday blocked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s attempt to unanimously pass a bill to increase direct payments in the year-end coronavirus relief package to $2,000.

The Kentucky Republican later Tuesday introduced a bill that would boost the size of the checks to $2,000 from $600, repeal Section 230 legal liability protections for internet platforms and create a commission to study election issues. The bill would meet all of President Donald Trump’s recent demands, which are unrelated, but would not get Democratic support and become law.

Through the bill, Republicans would both avoid the act of actually passing $2,000 payments but allow GOP senators running for reelection in Georgia’s Jan. 5 runoffs to express support for Trump’s priorities.

In a statement Tuesday, Schumer said if McConnell “tries loading up” the bill “with unrelated, partisan provisions that will do absolutely nothing to help struggling families across the country,” larger direct payments would not become law.

“Any move like this by Sen. McConnell would be a blatant attempt to deprive Americans of a $2,000 survival check,” he said.

McConnell faces pressure to act after the House — with nearly all Democrats and a few dozen Republicans on board — voted Monday to increase the cash deposits to $2,000 from $600. Senate Republicans wary of spending more on pandemic aid are looking for a way to both meet the demands of a president who called the year-end coronavirus relief and funding bill a disgrace and hold on to their majority during races overshadowed by the crisis.

Dems should be for his other two provisions.

They have said they wanted to get rid of the exemption for big tech. Although, it was probably just blowing smoke

Mitch certainly doesn’t seem too concerned about losing GA runoffs. I guess he made a nice “deal” with Democrats to ensure his favored outcome: Trump out, GA Senators in, and the Money Train gets back on the tracks.

Career politicians/lawyers playing career politician/lawyer games. They are all a little too smart for their own britches but for some reason the Demonrats seem a little better at playing games. Why is that?

“McConnell Blocks $2,000 Stimulus Checks, Then Ties Them To Unrelated Trump Demands On Tech And Election”

The CNBC title has the informed reader laughing out loud.

A giant part of the Covid-19 “relief/stimulus” bill was totally UNRELATED to either Covid-19 conditioned “relief” or economic “stimulus”.

Yet, now, ipso facto, CNBC thinks they are demonstrating some journalistic spine, speaking of matters in a new Senate bill that are not directly related to Covid-19 relief or stimulus.

Just call it journalistic hubris and arrogance.

What a pile of crap! These morons seem to think that lying by omission isn’t really lying.
They are so full of hate that they not only cannot think straight, they cannot even think at all. They say all this s^^t and since they are so hateful they can’t even see how stupid they sound.

But, their target audience can’t think either, so ...

LOL. Too funny ... and too sad. That's exactly what Congressmen always do all the time. And that's the very definition of the catch-all "Covid-19 stimulus" bill that the Democrat House, Republican Senate, and President Trump just passed and signed a few days ago. Now Snitch McConnell's doing it again, as usual. Snitch assumes American voters are a bunch of morons who can't figure out what he's up to.

Both Republican & Democrat congressmen continually do the same thing, over and over, but always blame the "other Party" for it. I now have much higher regard for the used-car salesman profession than Congress. Congress is the absolute pits. Vote 'em all out! Lifetime SCOTUS appointments make sense but the effective lifetime appointments of Congressmen is nuts. I'm certain our Founding Fathers never envisioned a permanent Congressional Class. What would they have said about people such as lifetimers Snitch McConnell, Queen Nancy, Chuckie Schumer, etc.?

I read this as a tell that Yertle already knows GA is lost and is trying to deflect the blame onto Trump.

I actually think this a good move. Democrats now have to explain why they are holding up the $2,000 because they want all the pork and to continue protecting social media that are actually publishers who squash views they don’t like, yet do nothing about the defamation and lies of those they like.

Does anyone think Democrat voters care about exempting media companies from defamation and quashing freedom of speech?

I’ve heard that Schumer has stopped sending money to the Georgia Senate candidates because he knows they are going to lose and doesn’t want to piss off the huge Democrat donors by asking for more money for a lost cause.
