It has been a seismic year for sport, and no more so in athletes raising their voice in the fight for racial equality. Events in Germany have shown that, while progress has been made, there is much work to be done.
... Even before support for the Black Lives Matter movement surged across Europe in May, German football revealed in one month just how much work was still to be done.
Blame it on the lack of diversity at the executive level of the sport (particularly true in Germany), blame it on fundamental issues stretching deep into the fabric of society, but the inaction of sport's governing bodies renders their endless stream of positive words increasingly hollow.
From kneeling before games to jerseys with player names replaced by the words Black Lives Matter, it was evident that this time the protest was different, bigger, more prominent. Athletes took control in choosing how and when they wanted to send their message, and carried it out.
Time keeps passing by and the fight still continues, because it has to continue, including in sport. Great progress has been made over the last 30 years, but we have reached a point where incremental progress is not enough.
What we need is tangible change. We need more education about colonialism. We need a willingness to explore white privilege. We need to recognize and accept the facts, even when that means acknowledging uncomfortable truths about ourselves.
In 2020, many athletes have shown that they are not only prepared for battle; they are already in the midst of it. The question is, will they get the support they need?
Or will they be left alone to fight the hate messages, the discriminatory language, the human evil that is racism?

The next “cancel” is the GOP.
They are communists who assassinate LEOs.
Shoot on sight order requested.
They can protest in the mirror. It will have the same effect. Zero, zilch, nadda.

I stopped reading right there. These ignorant blacks making millions tossing around a ball. Good grief!
It will NEVER be enough.
Blak Lives Matter. A year of perpetual whining and moaning and attention whoring by a demographic that will forever need the white man to exist.
There is a GOP in Germany?
And to the advertisers of these events I'd say "I,like many Americans,am lucky enough to be able to afford a Range Rover,a Mediterranean cruise,a Rolex watch and that $900 a month diabetes medication that's always pushed in ads.And since February I haven't seen a single ad for any such product".
Zero football, zero nba, zero mlb, zero nascar. The nba has partially gotten the message via cratering viewership. Still too many conservatives watching the nfl.
It’s not a “protest” when it’s paid activism for their Communist masters.
If we are ever to truly rid the world of racism toward our black brothers, whites have much work to do. For instance, when walking alone through dark areas with groups of black “teens” loitering around and coming up to us, we must remove all fear. As long as we retain that fear, we will never move past racism. Whites must accept the blame and responsibility for correcting and removing this fear. Work on it.
(I realize some will not see obvious sarcasm in the above. So, please check the urge to admonish.)
C’mon man. Y R White Castles still standing? Shouldn’t they be burnt to the ground?...Or at least paint them black...
