Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to set up a stand-alone vote on increasing the amount of recently passed stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000.
Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) both tried to get consent for the Senate to bring up legislation that passed the House in a 273-134 vote on Monday.
The GOP leader did not directly address why he objected, but under the Senate's rules any one senator can block efforts to set up votes or pass bills.

No...he said he was taking up ALL of the Presidents wishes to be debated....not just the $2000 item.
McConnell is such a piece of human garbage. Hope he enjoys watching Queen Kamala break 300 ties in favor of Schumer in the next session.
The Dems want a free lunch. McConnell wants the issues brought up by Trump addressed:
“During this process, the president highlighted three additional issues of national significance he would like to see Congress tackle together,” McConnell said.
“Those are the three important subjects the president has linked together. This week the Senate will begin a process to bring these three priorities into focus,” he added.
McConnell did not provide additional details about how he might bring the measures up. But tying the stimulus checks push to Section 230, a legal shield for tech companies, or to Trump’s unproven claims that widespread election fraud cost him his reelection would almost certainly undermine Democratic support for such legislation.]
Martial Law Folks, it's the only thing that will save us from the destruction of our Country.
My first reaction.
You misspelled Civil War.
Maybe I’m dense, but I’m I think taking up all of the President’s demands first before it gets passed is WISE. Serious investigations into the fraud and removing cover for Big Tech so now they can be held liable??? I’m yeah...that’s a big deal and needed to happen. Big tech gets sued and big techcrats lose their funding to crooked politicians.
If he takes up the other issues with it, it’ll never get through the House. This is a high risk maneuver considering the Georgia run off elections
Remember - the liberal media need to be treated like Soviet-era Izveztia. It will leave out context and important details. Anything that Pelosi and Schumer support and want to rush through - you can bet it’s bad for the country.
Just nuked any chance of an (R) win in the GA run-off. Good bye (R) Senate Majority, a bunch of congressional seats in 2022, and any chance of Trump getting reelected in 2024 (assuming he is not inaugurated in 2021 and he does not start a whole new party for 2024)
Wake me up when McConnell introduces a clean bill that clearly, specifically, and only focuses on the issues President Trump brought up.
Otherwise, he’s stalling until Sloe Biden gets sworn in.
How? Most Americans voted for Trump....includingGeoegia. They don’t want to give moneys to Democratic love feats with foreign and enemy governments.
Most Americans want serious action on the election crime. This gives a path AND holds technocrats accountable
McConnell blocked this bill because he wants to use this as a bargaining chip to broker more pork. Instead of passing an initial clean bill with only relief for Americans, McConnell pushed for a pork-laden bill with freebies for every deadbeat country and Blue State. Now that it’s passed, he wil negotiate a second deal that will add another Trillion or so to the debt, with Americans getting $600 more and many more billions being added for pet projects of Dem and Republicans. The Kabuki theatre continues unabated.
Yep!
Those sickos are probably the only ones on the planet who got left out of Porkulus III...
My understanding is that PDJT asked for 3 things:
$2K per American,
Congressionally-mandated investigation into election fraud, and
Elimination of protections for tech companies spreading misinformation.
I doubt McConnell will address the second or third items.
The original pork is a done deal, it passed the house, the senate and Trump signed it. The damage has been done already. This is a BS do-over and extortionate attempt by this douchebag, that unfortunately screws Americans by $1400 each (and at a time where most people could really use it)
Make up your mind.. do you want people to do the right thing or the politically expedient thing. I thought We encouraged our electeds to do the right thing. I don’t Think it will have any effect on Georgia.
It is my understanding that McConnell rejected it until number two and three are dealt with...
