A Chinese tycoon who died on Christmas Day was poisoned, Shanghai police say.

Lin Qi, 39, was the chairman and chief executive of games developer Yoozoo, best known for the Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming strategy game.

The Shanghai police statement pointed to one of Mr Lin's colleagues - identified only by his surname Xu - as the main suspect.

Mr Lin was believed to have a net worth of around 6.8bn yuan (US$1.3bn, £960m), according to the Hurun China Rich List.

Many employees and ex-employees gathered outside Yoozoo's office on Friday to mourn his death.

Who was Lin Qi?

The businessman was a star of China's lucrative gaming market and had also made a foray into film production.

He founded Yoozoo in 2009 and successfully led the company through a period where the gaming industry saw substantial changes towards mobile gaming.

The company also issued an emotional statement on its official Weibo microblog.

"Goodbye youth," it said, adding, "We will be together, continue to be kind, continue to believe in goodness, and continue the fight against all that is bad."

The post attracted thousands of comments while the topic has been viewed more than 290 million times on Weibo.

Many of the tributes featured calligraphy as Mr Lin was an avid calligrapher along with being a poetry enthusiast.

He did not want to share the spoils with his CCP handlers.

Just a guess.

So many of the rich are dropping off like flies, and they seem to lean in our concept of Liberty.

As I have mentioned previously, keep watching the elite, if they start all taking vacations or are suddenly all I’ll and going into quarantine, it logically means that they know damn well the Shiite is about to hit the fan.

Stay safe, be vigilant

Respects.

Time for outlandish Chinese rumor mill to start. I am not talking about you. When something like this happens in China, some of rumors are eye-popping conspiracy theories.

No, I’m taking this at face value. If he had offended the Red Chinese, they would have simply arrested him.

They made China’ s biggest actress disappear over tax evasion, with her reappearing apologizing in public.

If the wanted him dead, they would have done it with a show trial and a bullet to the back of the head.

In Red China, this is known as “dying of natural causes”

This is probably a naive question, but if China is communist, how do they have billionaires with independent companies?

You have pointed out the current CCP problem.

Eliminating the freedoms in Hong Kong is the first step in gaining control of the Chinese entrepreneurial efforts that are currently totally out of control.

The internal fight is coming

They kept the "commie" label and all the red star branding, but since communism doesn't actually work in the real world, the government morphed into that other form of socialsim: fascism.

They have other problems now, with food and energy shortages and a large population that doesn't like the lack of either, and that's going to require the application of the iron fist.

They just came up with a way to prevent the wealthier from wasting food. If you don't eat everything you order at a restaurant, they fine you bigly.

billionaires with independent companies

They are not independent in the sense of Western countries. It is a state market economy. Communist party let people create business. However, they are on short leash. They all have communist party officials as patrons. Those officials take a cut. The financing companies need is heavily controlled by the officials, too.

Worker bees work hard to make money. But big brother will watch over you all the time. You are at their mercy. They can take your business away anytime they want.

China still has its totalitarian apparatus. They just loosen the grip so that people can create wealth. But their institutions are still communist organization.

Xi Jingping sees economic growth slowing down and gradually going into a crisis. Chinese are tightening belt. People are worse off. Their everyday life is not what it used to be.

But that does not mean that Xi's power is at risk. If people are prospering, they are more likely to rise up against their regime. However, if they are poor but not dirt poor, it is easier for the regime to control Chinese.

So the current situation is not necessarily bad. People would be busy making ends meet and barely getting by. They cannot afford to stand up for the regime.
