If Texas turns blue, can Republicans ever win the White House again?
Just the News ^ | December 25, 2020 | Joseph Curl

Let's start in 2000. That year, former Texas Gov. George W. Bush absolutely annihilated Democrat Al Gore in Texas, winning 59.3% of the vote to Gore's 37.9%. Bush won by 1.3 million votes of about 6 million cast.

Bush crushed Democrat John Kerry in 2004, 61.1% to 38.2%. That time he won by nearly 1.7 million votes of some 7 million ballots cast.

But things began to change when Barack Obama ran for president. While the late Sen. John McCain defeated the Democrat in 2008, he got just 55.4% of the vote to Obama's 43.6%. And McCain won by fewer than 1 million votes of about 8 million ballots cast.

Utah Sen. Mitt Romney took the margin back above that million-vote mark, defeating Obama in Texas by more than 1.2 million votes of about 8 million ballots cast as he took the state by 57.1% to 41.3%.

Yet President Trump couldn't match those numbers in 2016. He won 52.1% to Democrat Hillary Clinton's 43.1%. And he won by slightly more than 800,000 votes of some 8.5 million cast.

Things got worse in 2020, when Trump got 52.1% of the vote to Joe Biden's 46.5%. While a win, his margin was just more than 600,000 votes — of nearly 11 million cast.

You read that right: 11 million. That's double the number of votes cast in the state in 1996.

You are the one embarrassing yourself. This is not 1860.

It would be the same process.

Home schooling-aka as really learning history, math, English,-is good for trending kids toward conservative values-and away from useless virtue signalling crap-I hope it is happening all over the state...

Unfortunately in the urban areas that isn't the case. The many Hispanic high school kids I've talked to speak perfect English, that isn't the problem. It's the history and other disciplines that are the problem and that applies to everyone.

I've lived in a predominately Hispanic voting precinct for many years here in west Houston. This precinct went 59% for McCain/Palin in 2008 but was 54% for Biden this year. Voting fraud was undoubtedly part of the problem with mail ballots this year but the trend worries me.

Trump won 40% of the Hispanic vote this year in TX according to exit polls. His performance down in the Valley was terrific. No other Republican could have done that down here, yet he underperformed Cornyn. That's ridiculous on its face and it's fraud. Period.

I gave you the answer three replies ago. The word starts with the sixth letter of the alphabet. And because of that, I have no source for whatever the true number is; but neither dores anyone else, particularly if the source has a left-wing bias.

Again, have a nice Boxing Day, or St. Stephen’s Day.

Ok, you don’t like the 28% but have no real number to even speculate? Is it off by 20% 50% 100%? LOL.

I don’t have any family in/near Houston-I did have a couple of cousins who lived and worked there, but the last one got a job in El Paso about 8 years ago and moved there-he always complained about Houston being a den of corruption-always reasoned it was because it was too close geographically to New Orleans...

I’ve never wanted to live around Houston-or anywhere else on the coast for that matter-I like colder temperatures in the Winter-and less humidity-but I grew up in W Texas and spent some years in/near the mountains of NM so thar is probably why...

My wife and I are finally talking serious about the Hill Country west of San Antonio. Love it out there. I’m a dark-sky buff and have been to Fort Davis many times. That may be a little too rural for my wife but the Hill Country beckons. :)

Politics is all about winning hearts and minds

It doesn't matter how many hearts and minds are won if elections can be stolen at will, which they apparently can.

Most immigrants come here to get money. How is not important.

They come from poorer corrupt states. And have no problems with the corruption. Heck un Latin cultures it has existed since the Roman empire. What they want is for their persons, their families, and their tribe to succeed.

Only white, conservative, Americans try to pretend rules matter. Everyone mocks us for being so stupid.

Even Hispanic conservatives. They don’t like the baby killing deus, but their Preists say the best shot they have to taking over the culture is the dems.

It doesn’t what color Texas is if Democrats can steal elections.

That’s undeniable truth. Republicans have all the honor and loyalty of Brutus with a new set of steak knives.

Almost 1/2 of Texas is solid blue. You’d never get more than 1/2 to vote to seceede...

Legal immigration is killing us as much or more so than illegal immigration.

Elections apparently have been fraudulent for some time.

Should we assume otherwise?

Not that is will matter anymore, because they will be able to steal any election they want going forward, with zero repercussions ....Texas used to be more blue than California.

Regarding historical political party strength, Texas has elected more Democrats at both the state and national level, than California has. Texas could go back to being blue.

It’s not.

That’s a fantasy by some who still think it’s even the 1990s

Hell, they would almost be evenly matched INSIDE the state in a fight with dems, no less fighting outsiders.

However, it is possible that, ironically, Rs could come from New York and CA in droves and keep it red.

I know many NY republicans who have gone to Texas for good.
