Los Angeles Teachers’ Union: Free Up Funds to Reopen Schools by Defunding Police

A research paper released by United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) suggests government schools could free up funds needed to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic if police are defunded.

“Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the paper said, citing research from the American Public Health Association titled “Addressing Law Enforcement Violence as a Public Health Issue.”

“We must shift the astronomical amount of money devoted to policing, to education and other essential needs such as housing and public health,” the union said, advocating that schools meet more social service needs.

As Fox News reported, the Los Angeles City Council has already slashed the Los Angeles Police Department by $150 million and indicated the funds will be redirected to low-income areas.

“Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people,...

Absolutely false.

93% of black homicides are black-on-black.

If Shakespeare were writing today, instead of “First, kill all the lawyers,” he might well write, “First, kill all the teachers.”

Better plan here - how about all teachers who are not teaching be furloughed just like all other employment! If this was done last spring schools could now be funded as well as the police! Sad how communistic the California teachers have become!

Then do it. Defund the police. Everyone will leave California except for the wealthy, gangs, and illegal immigrants.

Leave the schools closed then.

Kids will be better off.

I’d rather have a little less book smart society, than a
society that is totally destroyed by the destroyers.

These teachers have no grasp of reality, how the rest of us
see them and what end product they are turning out these
days.

Ban public sector unions. Get the communists out of our schools. Privatize all education.

Not pipe dreams - our future if we make it so.

I remember when it made good sense to listen to the advice of teachers.

I wouldn't allow a public school teacher near my child these days.

They want them to patrol around in electric golf carts. Gets them closer to the people.

Teachers need to be laid off or fired if they don’t want to teach live classes.

Gee wizz,
Teachers use to be admired.
At this point teachers and their union are crappola.
Folks can go to Wal-Mart or their grocery stores but teachers hide in their homes while getting paid and do little other than bitch and make stoopid demands.

Property taxes fund the schools.

Teachers were paid when home owners were NOT working. Many of the teacher’s chores were taken over my families at home-—kids learning from home.

Gascon is already changing the punishments——which ,IIRC, HE has NO authority to do. The Legislature passed the laws. NOT the city AG.

There never was a ‘school police’ when I went to school.

Now-—an army of FERAL BARBARIANS is running everyone around inn circles.

NO ‘GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED’.

No police???

No security for Your HOME or your other possessions.

NO reports for you to file with your insurance company.....

Do you all really wish to give up your security/safety-—such as it is???
