The $900 billion coronavirus relief package includes a long sought measure to send aid to struggling independent theaters and music venues.
But now those cultural centers and small businesses are left waiting for help yet again.
The measure was set to become law this week, but President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to blow up the deal, the result of months of contentious negotiations.

It caps a several-month push for the Save Our Stages Act, a bipartisan plan to buoy small arts and entertainment venues that have taken a drubbing during pandemic health restrictions.
Private, small performing arts venues, movie theaters, museums and zoos would be able to receive grants from the Small Business Administration — starting with those that have seen revenue drop by more than 90% from last year. The entities can use the money for costs such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, payroll, insurance and maintenance to comply with public health guidelines.

The Actors’ Equity Association, the labor union that represents around 51,000 stage actors and managers in the live theatrical performance industry, said more than 1,100 actors and managers lost work on Broadway during the pandemic.
The theater industry in New York City supports more than 96,000 local jobs, according to the Broadway League. That includes those involved in productions and those working in the area around Broadway like retailers, taxi drivers and restaurant owners.
“We are grateful for this bipartisan agreement which will provide immediate relief across our industry and a lifeline to the future,” Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League, said after lawmakers struck the deal – but before Trump ripped the deal following its passage in Congress.

Oh, well...
How about helping plumbers or welders? You know. The important people. At least they don’t actively work to destroy freedom like the actors.
Straw man argument. If that was all that was wrong with it, it would pass easy.
And for disclosure, I’ve been working an average of 60 hours a week all year. No unemployment, no layoffs, just work. I’ve been around crowds, close to people, escapees from California no less. No Covid, also, side benefit of wearing masks and gloves, no flu this year! Just work, paid work.
Maybe I’m just a bit jealous about all these people getting paid to sit home and do nothing.
The RATS who keep filling their wallets from every bill could open their own personal off shore accounts to help out all those non-essentials jobs.
WoW!
I moved to not think about this unimportant impact again.
Instead, I’ll think about how we should not be funding teacher’s unions, boat renovations in Turkey, and preparations for the return of the dali lama.
Just start over in 2021
First things first.... THE BACKBONE OF OUR NATION AND ECONOMY, THE WE THE WORKERS
Too much dependence on government! DC can’t solve all your problems, even if it pretends to be able to.

Don’t they produce anti-Trump and anti-Conservative and anti-God content?
Maybe they have been slacking off, and need an ‘infusion’.
Blame it on Nanzi. Too much pork for just one fork.
There are plenty of very wealthy people who should be reaching into their pockets to pay for “the arts”. We have a lot of people who are out of work, money shouldn’t be spent wastefully.

Government parasites. Stop their paychecks, stop their insurance, and throw them in jail if they violate their own orders.
Fckn parasites! Every damn one of them.
They are also capable of working from home. Whether that is recording new works (even commercial jingles) or livestreaming performances (or even putting up pay-per-view recordings of full concerts). Selling signed albums/photos/greeting calls etc.
“The Actors’ Equity Association”
The vast majority who are democrats and agree with the lockdowns. Let them starve!
Must be comedy hour. Their entire industry is being trumped by the greatest reality-show on the planet.

Gallows humor!
A gallows (or scaffold) is a frame, typically wooden, from which objects can be hung or "weighed". Gallows were thus widely used for public weighing scales for large objects such as sacks of grain or minerals, usually positioned in markets or toll gates. The term was also used for a framework from which a ship’s anchor might be raised so that it no longer sitting on the bottom, i.e., "weighing [the] anchor". In modern usage it has come to mean almost exclusively a scaffold or gibbet used for execution by hanging. Gallows
