Seems to me, given the current election situation, that money should be used to fix OUR problems, not those of some other 3rd world country (yes, the US is now a 3rd world country).
More than a third of Americans are going to be homeless in another 10 days? Really?
That’s different than more than a third of Americans being homeless in 10 days.
It’s tough and none of this should be happening, but it often takes those who lose a previously well-paying job far too long to bite the bullet and seriously cut their expenses. They think because they once made $X in income they are forever entitled to live in the manner they could once afford. Instead, by holding on with that mindset they spend themselves to ruin when they don’t have sufficient income coming in.
And those census surveys are always sensationalistic and way off. They ask leading questions that make it end up sounding like half the country is “food insecure”—or whatever it is they are scare mongering that month.
And what kind of leftist are you? That NYTimes piece is right that vulture investors will win as always with these created crises, but that we need to move to the communistic UBI as a solution is just putting us into full CCP/globalist enslavement.
It is not good that we’ve got 6% of mortgage holders in forbearance, but certainly not surprising given what we’ve done to ourselves this year.

I am sorry for the tough times, but from afar my guess is your attitude came before your outcome.
What happened to America(n)first?
It looks like the status quo continues unless/until the vast majority of us ARE on our backs in poverty...if that’s what it takes to get people’s heads out of the sand(or elsewhere), so be it. The vast majority will be there soon enough anyway if we continue on this path of greed and corruption(by a few).
Look, I realize global economics dictate America is no longer in as strong of a position as it was post-WWII, where the rest of the industrialized world was smashed and WE were China, selling everything to everybody.
Doesn’t mean we sit back and allow a deteriorating situation to go into complete meltdown because of a handful of greedy, blood-thirsty miscreants decide they think they know what’s best for us(best = serfdom or death for us, lap of luxury for them, BTW).
During times of “personal” economic strife one must pull in resources, make sacrifices, then do what it takes to mitigate the damage(TO YOUR FAMILY)by improving ones standing in the marketplace, shoring up weaknesses, learning from mistakes...
That DOESN’T include allowing gov./corp. partners-in-crime to steal your kids(or someone else’s kid’s)credit card and continue to eat at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, buy that new Play Station, etc., like nothing’s wrong...all the while Slouching Towards Gomorrah(at warp speed)and rigging the system so you don’t get caught/punished. That is a GUARANTEED path of destruction for America...and you can bet there are foreign actors salivating at our demise, even facilitating it “from within” as we speak.
We are playing a textbook game of “How Empires Implode” right now...change course or be part of history’s trash bin.
