Chinese Drones Are Spying on Americans

he U.S. government at the federal, state, and local levels is using Chinese drones that the Chinese Communist Party is exploiting for espionage. That is the public conclusion of a branch of the Department of Homeland Security. Citing “security concerns,” other departments have all-but-explicitly publicly made the same claims, and some have begun to take steps to limit the purchase of Chinese drones.

Drones made in China and operated by Americans map U.S. infrastructure, agriculture, railroads, government buildings, power plants, disaster-relief operations, and the movements of law-enforcement officers. The data collected in those drone flights are believed to be sent back to China, where there is no divide between civil and military sectors. The Commerce Department’s listing on Friday of one major Chinese drone company on the U.S. entities list makes it difficult for U.S. companies to buy its products and underscores the growing sense of urgency to end their access to the United States. But it is time to go further. The U.S. government at all levels should immediately stop purchasing Chinese drones and end Chinese drone companies’ access to the U.S. commercial market.

It should be a fairly simple matter to log all destinations where a device is sending data, or is sending data to it, for that matter.

If I can prove it’s Chinese after I shoot it down, is there a cash reward or anything for turning it in?

Frankly, I would like to see proof of this. I think the fake news bait sites are going to be viral on all things Chinese. Show me proof or it is fake news. We probably should throw out our chop sticks...’ya never know about those Chinese chop sticks, maybe they have imbedded Covid particles.

The Department of Defense issued a ban on the purchase and use of all commercial off-the-shelf drones, citing “cybersecurity vulnerabilities,” in a memo from then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Pat Shanahan dated May 23, 2018.

Effing globalists and foreign policy establishment covering for them. This is an inevitable outcome of more than two decades of their activities. This is not a pattern so difficult to recognize. It was actually in plain sight. Greed and blunder on a massive scale. Now the resulting damage is swallowing the entire country and about to bring it down.

Drones have recently been night time spying on farms in Oregon. Local authorities claim they are not informed who is doing it.

National Review is Never-Trumper publication, but it is not some blogger looking for click baits.

Your comparison with chopsticks is facetious. Chopsticks can not have data transmitter. Some people are so eager to defend what is wrought by mindless embracing of outsourcing craze, without considering its long-term implications. Looking out for long-term interest of nation is probably not a priority for business for whom several year is an eternity. It is time long-term survival of nation takes precedence over their interest.

It is simple. Take DJI for example, with expensive drones used by government and industry. Their drones call home to China automatically for updates. They can send a firmware update anytime they want. If you don't allow automatic updates they cripple your drone.

Drug dealers protecting their turf or the DEA, or both. What’s so special or strategic about farms in Oregon?

I live near some of the farms that have had nighttime flyovers.

No drug or DEA involved. No explanation from any form of government.

Then what makes any sense, from the perspective of pure common sense? Again, what’s so special about Oregon farms that would warrant this surveillance?

“If you don’t allow automatic updates they cripple your drone.”

Well, that’s just wonderful, isn’t it? And now we let them sit in on just about every web meeting that happens in the USA, including all those businesses that are supposedly competing with them. We might as well start now and make Chinese lessons mandatory for everyone.
