Like I care what the author thinks? When a boat is sinking you don’t pail water into it, you pail water out of it.

I would like to have a vote to make PR become independent. And, they can take USVI with them.

IIRC, George W Bush was real big on Puerto Rico statehood, but I don’t remember why.

I have no issue with Puerto Rico becoming a state... PART of the state of Florida.

When I lived there in the 60’s there was a plebiscite which clearly showed the island Democrats favored the retain the current commonwealth status while the island Republicans wanted to pursue statehood.

Only 1% sought independence. They may have only been 1% but they had the loud megaphones and dynamite sticks, which they used. Violence is the socialist way. It is in their DNA.

Independence for Puerto Rico, not statehood.

We’ve carried them long enough.

If you make Puerto Rico a steak, then they are going to want a baked potato and then maybe even a salad. Where does it stop?

Colonialism is evil. Puerto Rico should be given its independence like other Caribbean nations.

Admit Puerto Rico is a state only if they agree to drop Spanish language. Learn and speak English as Americans. Then, sure what the hell.

PR can become a state if we can create the state of Jefferson from CA, OR and WA. DC can become a state (or at least have voting representation in Congress) if TX is allowed to split into 2 (Or Southern Illinois becomes its own state). Deal???

Adding Puerto Rico as the 51st state it’s nothing more than a demon rat ploy to get two more Senators and representatives.

The Democrats want more electoral votes from Puerto Rico. They also want to add Washington D.C. as a state.

The people of Puerto Rico have repeatedly rejected statehood. Past history has shown that statehood come with the people of the territory voting for statehood and then petitioning the Congress to become a state.

Thus my question is: Can the Senate make Puerto Rico a state of the union against its people’s wishes?
