Pine Bluff, AR -A paramedic fatally shot a suspect after the suspect opened fire hitting the two paramedics on scene.
Shortly after 4:30 am on Thursday Pine Bluff police received a call that two paramedics had been shot near 1409 W. 23rd Ave.
When police officers arrived on the scene they found paramedic Joshua Godfrey in the back of the ambulance and paramedic John Spriggs on the ground.
The paramedics reported to police that they were administering medical attention to the suspect’s girlfriend when the suspect Kevin Curl came at both of them aggressively.
Curl pushed Spriggs who then punched Curl. At that point Curl opened fire on the paramedics hitting both of them three times.
Spriggs returned fire striking Curl who was later found dead inside a residence on the kitchen floor.
Both paramedics and the woman were transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The incident is being investigated.
Man dead, paramedics wounded.
So the paramedic was armed? First time I have heard of that but it’s about time!
Thanks for clearing up a really poorly written article.
Bad guy killed.
Some states have passed laws to specifically protect paramedics who choose to exercise Second Amendment rights on the job.
Always more to the story. Suspect that both the lady and her boyfriend were intoxicated with methamphetamines and cocaine. The woman probably seized, the guy called 911 and as is common in these situations the irrationality and paranoia went to the next level. What is interesting is that paramedics now feel it necessary to be armed. Also there is a gap in this story. Usually when paramedics are dispatched, the police arrive first. Much more to this story. Also should be noted that Arizona has a high concentration of lowlifes.
I saw a report this was not treated as a domestic case, so police were not dispatched to the scene.
It was in Pine Bluff, AR (Arkansas)
In parts of Eastern Arkansas, many people carry. And a lot of people live in the “sticks” and are unfriendly to outsiders.
The state designator of AR means Arkansas.
This one appears to be Pine Bluff, Ark., but thanks for the heads up on AZ.
Pine Bluff is on US-530 directly south of Little Rock. On a large bend in the Arkansas River.
Definitely when trying to treat a domestic abuser's girlfriend after a beating.
PB is home to a very large paper mill that turns out coated paper for milk cartons. It’s also the only place I carried in my sales travels.

Pretty soon the clergy will be armed. Its getting that bad out there.
When I was an EMT our fire department strictly forbade armed carry on the job. We were ordered to stand down near the scene until LE gave us the all clear. Most fire department personnel wouldn’t want to go in even if some or all were armed. Police officers go in to the job knowing and accepting the risks; fire personnel not so much.
My Section Sergeant, while stationed in Germany, was from Pine Bluff. I will never forget him saying one morning, “Damn Jackson, it’s right “airish” out here.” Being from the northeast, I’d never heard the term airish. I knew what he meant, but I was still down one knee laughing.
He drove me to Frankford when I was getting out. When I exited his car, the last thing I told him, “It’s right airish, this morning.” We both laughed. Sergeant Barnes, you were a good man.
Savin's lives and takin' lives; I'd say that gentleman is well rounded. Not making light of what transpired; it's obvious this guy had prepared and enacted a plan once things went south.
Remote Arkansas is a whole different world.
Much like some parts of WV and TN.
Odd things happen in such places. Like Mena Arkansas.
That was like out of some novel. Crazy incredible combination of forces and people.
Years ago, one of a group of outside salesmen that I supervised had a customer in Mena. After he got to the point he trusted me, we had some interesting conversations. He owned property near Mena. Locals did not talk about that place.
Good riddance to bad trash.
