A SEVERE VARIANT of the coronavirus has been detected in South Africa which could explain the rapid spread of a second wave that affects younger people, the health minister said.
Known as the 501.V2 Variant, it was identified by South African researchers and details have been sent to the World Health Organization, Zwelini Mkhize said in a statement.
A team led by the Kwazulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform (KRISP), has sequenced hundreds of virus samples since the pandemic began, and “noticed that a particular variant has increasingly dominated the findings of the samples collected in the past two months,” he added.
It’s been reported that 88% of the latest results in the Western Cape province are from the new Covid-19 variant.
South African doctors have remarked that more patients are younger, and do not always have other conditions that amplify the virus’ effect, but are nonetheless suffering from more severe forms of Covid-19.
That “strongly suggests that the current second wave we are experiencing is being driven by this new variant,” Mkhize concluded.

“I see you’ve jumped the tracks also.
Pathetic.”
LOL! A voodooist claiming I am the one that has jumped!
Look at the title of this thread and tell me who has jumped the tracks.
Very sick.
Are people stocking up on hazmat suits (and toilet paper) now?
Heterosexual AIDS
Don’t forget that they are calling for lockdowns and masks even for those who’ve gotten vax shots.
Vitamin d, and zinc, bioflavinoids, and artemesia are a lot safer. Double check on the artemesia if they take meds.

Curious, which bioflavinoids do you take/recommend? And how does Artemesia* fit in the prophylaxis? I have not seen it on any of the regimens I have seen.
*I have never heard of it until I read your post. (Learn something new on FR everyday...)
artemesia works the same way hcq does against malaria
and also covid
the two best recommended for safety and effectiveness are from green tea, dark chocolate - darker the better
I’ll stick with Ivermectin.
What are the odds the current vaccines will work on the new release? Any chance at all?
I don’t believe that to be true. What on earth is the basis for this statement?
I know that mortality goes up with age but the CDC reported a 5.4% IFR for people 70 and older. That is a long way from 24%.
Do they all work in hospitals or in the outpatient world?
I guess you missed the part about those 150,000 where NONE of them were the infirm elderly. ZERO. Now they are saying not to be surprised if the elderly die from side effects of it. Plus the nurse on live TV passing out from the vaccine shot given minutes before. Anaphylaxis shock is one side effect.
But you go right ahead and take it if you must, but please stop with your disinfo by omission and cherry picked facts.
The real mortality rate for the vaccine is unknown. The trials were not blind. Pro-vax activists volunteered and worked together and were testing themselves in violation of the study agreement. This is fraudulent so the entire study is suspect. It’s an attempt to misrepresent the truth to advance an agenda, as YOU might say.
Sheesh, try to keep up when pontificating.
Otherwise you’re just passing more gas_dr.
If you are going to take a vaccine, give it to your children, or to your elderly family members. It is especially important to build up the nutrition status for a week or more before getting the shot. Of course it is even better to be doing this regularly and for a long time. Vitamin D3 5000 IU daily especially in winter (low sun), Vitamin C 500 or 1000 mg twice a day preferably sustained release, or more, good on-a-day multi vitamin/mineral tablet once or twice a day. Good zinc supplement 50 mg. daily when under threat or every other day if away from infection danger. Other supplements you may find helpful for your personal health. If you can’t get the medical ionophores HCQ or Ivermectin, then get the over the counter ionophore Quercetin. Check the link below for several articles suggesting other doses and supplements or medications.

I am 82, spending most of my time with the man I love, living in an area where most wear masks and all practice social distance and stores require masks. Mostly just go grocery shopping, get supplements on line. Probably would not consider getting vaccine before June after observing the wide-spread vaccine results.
As I understand it, the virus itself is quite stable. I suspect that even this bizarre variant would be mild or get shrugged off if you have already had a different strain.
