This year's economic shutdowns have done little to reduce the world's carbon emissions. While pollution has dipped, greenhouse gases keep accumulating in the atmosphere, locking in future decades of climate disruption and extreme weather. A recent United Nations report says the so-called emissions gap - the "difference between where we are likely to be and where we need to be" on climate policy - is as big as ever.
As for who's chiefly responsible for the gap, it's the global rich, the report says. Just 10% of the world's population emits nearly half of the world's carbon pollution. The top 1% of income earners around the world, a group that includes 70 million people, account for 15% of emissions - more than the 3.5 billion people in the bottom 50%.
The upshot: When it comes to cutting their emissions, "The richest 1% would need to reduce their current emissions by at least a factor of 30, while per capita emissions of the poorest 50% could increase by around three times their current levels on average," the U.N. says. That translates into a reduction of 97% in carbon emissions for the wealthiest people.

Of course what the UN means is that Soros,Bill Gates,the Obamas,etc get to keep their private jets and their 30,000 sq ft beach houses while the American middle class commutes to work on bicycles,can’t have their thermostats above 48 degrees in winter and gets to eat squirrels and grubs rather than chicken,beef or fish.

The Green New Deal is right out of the World Economic Forum/U.N. plan to destroy Western economies, take away freedoms and usher in One World Government.

The claim is scientific B.S. and most importantly it is B.S. even by bits of science that are not in dispute - such as how long CO2 that reaches the atmosphere stays in the atmosphere.
That science acknowledges that even drastic cuts in additional CO2 emissions will not alter growth of atmospheric CO2 for anywhere from another 100 to 200 years.
So, instead of investing in climate mitigation and adaptation measures, which would help BUILD economies over the next 100 to 200 years, and - should the wrong headed alarmists theories ever pan out - help society become resilient to climate changes, the alarmists would destroy our economies today, and leave us poorer over the next 100 to 200 years.
If anyone thinks we cannot adapt to climate change, they only need to consider that humans have established habitats in nearly every weather climate on earth, and that as much as various species of plants and animals fall to climate changes, others always rise on those same changes, and LIFE writ large has a mission to adapt and survive.
The alarmists have no faith in humanity or in LIFE.
The other 3% work at the UN and can flitter back and forth to meetings in nice resorts as usual.

If they give up Air Force 1 and 2, and Nancy Pelosi stops flying home to San Francisco every weekend on another government jet, I might, might, take them seriously.
