“Haspel’s job has been rumored to be in doubt in the weeks after the election”

That’s an understatement.

He should fire him. Even if Biden then wants him as FBI chief, he will have to run through the gauntlet of the senate.

I think it is highly unlikely that Wray will want to risk that.

As far as worrying about “perceptions”, that doesn’t matter one whit.

So sick of this weakness. Has Wray been doing his job? No. Has he stonewalled and covered up things? Yes. Doesn’t matter who it’s for/against. Not a question of loyalty. Not to Trump. I’ll throw that logic back at them - Isn’t it a question of loyalty to the Rule of Law? 100% THAT is what you’re going to be fired for.

It’s so false this canard that you can’t investigate your political opponents. Is there suspicion of wrongdoing? If yes, then doesn’t matter if it’s your best friend. Justice is Justice. Right and Wrong should be judged on their own.

a position that traditionally has maintained independence from the White House

How, under our Constitution, could such a thing ever be possible?

This is one of a number of now widely accepted, but false or even impossible ideas about our governing structure.

The FBI director must report to someone (he has a boss). If the boss is the Attorney General, HE must report to someone (he has a boss). The Executive Branch is not a mini-parliament where members of the Cabinet exercise ministerial responsibility (it's a good model, but it's not our model).

Executive power in the United States is "vested in a President", and all inferior officials (including Christopher Wray) derive authority from him, report to him, and serve at his pleasure.

If the FBI were abolished tomorrow and all of its employees and officers dismissed, teh Constitution would not be harmed. But if teh FBI director were "independent of the White House" (The White House in this case being a synonym for the President), permanent injury would be done to the constitution.

Obviously, Trump heeded this advice. Unfortunate for the country.

The entire 4 years of Trump’s Presidency, treacherous Republicans have forced him to support traitors. Our real enemies are RINOs

The White House counsel needs a class on the US Constitution. Tradition is nice at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it has no place on issues of the Law. Executive authority is embodied in the person of the President.

Fire him.

I’d leave Wray in place so that Biden has to fire him. Of course, the media will not call Biden firing Wray a political act. The slot was needed for a communist — milquetoast Democrat like Wray isn’t Progressive enough.

The “loyalty test” problem that is only an issue if a Republican is president.

I am sure that is exactly the way Lyndon Johnson would have handled it as well. Yeah right.

institute the insurrection act, use the miltary to bring this all under control. Our republic demands it

If he doesn't he and his entire family will suffer at the whims of despotic state and local prosecutors, count on it. They will not be satisfied until he is utterly destroyed.

Not to mention of course the entire country will sink into utopian oblivion. Sadly I see way too many people more than willing to wear the mask of shame and even worse government thugs happily enforcing these insane dictates. No matter how insane those rules are.

I don't think there should be any doubt now about whether law enforcement or even military will happily come to you home and request you hand over all you guns and the way it is looking maybe even you're Bibles. New York just signed a law against hate symbols which of course will be defined by the worst haters in our country.

I guess Christians should not be surprised that Bible prophecy is being revealed before our eyes. When we see all these things we told to look up for our redemption draweth nigh.

But only for cause. Biden, for example, can't fire him merely because he was a Trump appointee.

Guess you don't remember Comey's parting speech. He declared the President could fire him for any cause or cause at all he served only at the President pleasure.

Sure he will be grilled by "A President is entitled to his appointments" Graham. Strangely he didn't feel that way about President Trump who he often threatened to not replace their deep state allies.

Do Republicans ever convey their support of Trump to Trump?

Why is Trump cautioned about firing someone for insubordination?

Most here seem to want to forget that Barr thought the political prosecution of Roger Stone was fair and Just, after all he didn't object to the political swat raid on Stone's home in the middle of the night or even the raid of Trump's lawyer's files, no problem with any of Wrays political showboating raids and arrests. Apparently he had no problem whatsoever with concealing all the evidence agains Hunter and the entire Biden family. Wake up people these clowns are not our friends.
