>That’s because the sellers and the buyers are blaming the downturn on COVID.

Which makes no sense at all. People are home more, are very limited in where they can go out - yet somehow they’re watching less because of Covid?

It makes no sense whatsoever.

The Left has ruined another American institution, and many haven’t figured it out yet. But many have, which is why the numbers are what they are.

If the boycotts are not affecting their ability to get paid this kind of money, then perhaps whoever is paying them does not care about viewer revenue

I dunno. $100 Billion is a lot to spend just to make a political point.

All the sports are blaming the bad numbers on COVID, but I think they are in for a big surprise when they don’t return. Even if they aren’t hardcore boycotters, a lot of people are just tired of the wokeness and are greatly reducing their time spent on their sports addiction.

My love is baseball, but I wouldn’t even accept free tickets or an invite to a game-watching party at this point. I’m done giving anti-American scum any form of support.

I think the metric to watch is sports gambling - which continues to increase as more states legalize.

There could be a $100B deal on paper but that's only if every star lines up and every mark is reached.

It's never going to come close to that. Long before the kneeling and the anti-American agenda, the games had become unwatchable.

Guess they boycott isn’t working.

I don't think it is. Hell, there are many FReepers still watching. I'm not boycotting them. A boycott would imply I am withholding my support until they do something to appease me. I'm just done with them.

Only if it's your money.

If you’ve ever traded stocks or invested you’d see the same phenomenon. Or perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “nobody lost their job from buying IBM.”

The NFL is, of course, going to say that they’re better than ever before and put up a song and dance to investors to say that their value is a bargain right now and investors will double their money.

The investors are seeing this and NEED to put their money somewhere to grow their own businesses - they’re betting the NFL is going to come roaring back and even if it doesn’t who else are they going to invest with for content?

NFL numbers are significantly down. But the other major sports are down even more. And broadcast TV viewership continues to dwindle as viewers go online, dividing their time among a myriad of sites. Even though, in terms of eyes on the screen at one time, the NFL has less to offer compared to a few years ago, it has more to offer compared to the alternatives available today.

Excellent point and I agree. Gambling and fantasy football drive the ratings for the under 30 crowd.

You’re not done with them - we should be protesting at the state houses and forcing the cities and states to STOP funding the sports teams and stadiums altogether.

“I dunno. $100 Billion is a lot to spend just to make a political point.“

Have you been following the real news in the past year?

You think the viewers are earning them that kind of dough?

I wouldn't be surprised if the new contracts have ratings requirements and revenue sharing with the NFL rather than fixed dollar values like the old contracts.

$100 billion might be an estimate if everything returns to normal in the next ten years rather than football going the way of tennis - watched by a few enthusists, but nowhere near as popular as it once was.

There is a big difference between trading a stock which can be done on a daily basis and committing $100 Billion over 10 years. But I get your point, this is an investment and in the investment world there no such thing as a risk free investment

Go Pack Go

I’m a rabid Packers fan, have been all my life, it’s the one thing that kept my father and I talking when I went through my teenage rebellion phase, we could always talk Packers. he’s gone but I still have those wonderful memories. So I refuse to let that personal connection die because some idiots try to sell me some soft soap about social justice.

I don’t buy the products they push and I think it’s laughable that the stadium’s pump in crowd noise during the games and I have noticed the networks have eased off on the SWJ crap and are now dealing in Salute to the military Services and first responders which is fine by me.

I get why folks are upset at the NFL, but in this case I have to cut the league some slack, I love the game, I love my father and as long as the Geen and Gold line up each week, I’ll be watching. I know some of you will consider me part of the problem and I’m ok with that because I don’t think we’re going to “fix” this country by NOT ppopping a cold one and watching the game.
Now flame away if you must. Go Pack Go

Let the Networks sink money in this loser! Just means LESS money for the DEMOCRAT Run news divisions.

The only thing I can guess is that their researchers factored this into account. You don't commit $100 Billion without doing exhaustive research. They must think it's worth it but when all is said and done, it is their gamble and their money to lose.

Good point. As soon as the traditional Fascist Media networks collapse in bankruptcy their “news” (propaganda) divisions will go with them. Also, these sorts of valuations always happen at the top of giant bubbles driven by cheap debt and money. Guess where TV and sports are heading . . .
