>That’s because the sellers and the buyers are blaming the downturn on COVID.
Which makes no sense at all. People are home more, are very limited in where they can go out - yet somehow they’re watching less because of Covid?
It makes no sense whatsoever.
The Left has ruined another American institution, and many haven’t figured it out yet. But many have, which is why the numbers are what they are.
I dunno. $100 Billion is a lot to spend just to make a political point.
All the sports are blaming the bad numbers on COVID, but I think they are in for a big surprise when they don’t return. Even if they aren’t hardcore boycotters, a lot of people are just tired of the wokeness and are greatly reducing their time spent on their sports addiction.
My love is baseball, but I wouldn’t even accept free tickets or an invite to a game-watching party at this point. I’m done giving anti-American scum any form of support.
I think the metric to watch is sports gambling - which continues to increase as more states legalize.
I suspect this is BS put out for marketing purposes.
It's never going to come close to that. Long before the kneeling and the anti-American agenda, the games had become unwatchable.
I don't think it is. Hell, there are many FReepers still watching. I'm not boycotting them. A boycott would imply I am withholding my support until they do something to appease me. I'm just done with them.
It’s not working on my wife. She still watches and buys Ravens crap.
Only if it's your money.
If you’ve ever traded stocks or invested you’d see the same phenomenon. Or perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “nobody lost their job from buying IBM.”
The NFL is, of course, going to say that they’re better than ever before and put up a song and dance to investors to say that their value is a bargain right now and investors will double their money.
The investors are seeing this and NEED to put their money somewhere to grow their own businesses - they’re betting the NFL is going to come roaring back and even if it doesn’t who else are they going to invest with for content?
NFL numbers are significantly down. But the other major sports are down even more. And broadcast TV viewership continues to dwindle as viewers go online, dividing their time among a myriad of sites. Even though, in terms of eyes on the screen at one time, the NFL has less to offer compared to a few years ago, it has more to offer compared to the alternatives available today.
Excellent point and I agree. Gambling and fantasy football drive the ratings for the under 30 crowd.
You’re not done with them - we should be protesting at the state houses and forcing the cities and states to STOP funding the sports teams and stadiums altogether.
“I dunno. $100 Billion is a lot to spend just to make a political point.“
Have you been following the real news in the past year?
You think the viewers are earning them that kind of dough?
$100 billion might be an estimate if everything returns to normal in the next ten years rather than football going the way of tennis - watched by a few enthusists, but nowhere near as popular as it once was.
There is a big difference between trading a stock which can be done on a daily basis and committing $100 Billion over 10 years. But I get your point, this is an investment and in the investment world there no such thing as a risk free investment
Let the Networks sink money in this loser! Just means LESS money for the DEMOCRAT Run news divisions.
The only thing I can guess is that their researchers factored this into account. You don't commit $100 Billion without doing exhaustive research. They must think it's worth it but when all is said and done, it is their gamble and their money to lose.
Good point. As soon as the traditional Fascist Media networks collapse in bankruptcy their “news” (propaganda) divisions will go with them. Also, these sorts of valuations always happen at the top of giant bubbles driven by cheap debt and money. Guess where TV and sports are heading . . .
