The U.S. government would save about $2.6 billion if President-elect Joe Biden halts construction on the border wall project on his first day in office, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates reviewed by The Washington Post...
The U.S. Army Corps estimates show there will be about $3.3 billion in unused funds in the project’s accounts on January 21. Army Corps officials have engaged in a series of meetings in recent weeks about how to end the contracts — and what can be done legally, and when...
While the Biden administration will have the ability to terminate or modify contracts with the construction firms building the barrier, those companies will be able to bill the government for “demobilization” fees that cover the withdrawal of crews, materials and equipment from the border. Those fees are projected to add up to about $700 million, according to the estimates.
The Army Corps also priced out a third option that would not add more linear miles to the barrier but allow companies to complete the roads, sensors and other “attributes” that are part of the contracts...
Construction crews along the border have been working round-the-clock in multiple locations to build the barriers as fast as possible before Biden takes office, anticipating that the project’s days are numbered...
A Biden decision to halt construction would deal the biggest blow to CBP’s efforts in South Texas, the busiest span for illegal crossings, which border officials identified as their top priority for new barriers. Crews are projected to complete about 30 miles of new barriers along the river levees in South Texas, far short of the agency’s goals.

Just think how much we could save if we just eliminated the DOD
Time to secede.

It seems to me that recouping $2.6 billion might be only from terminating the remaining DoD funded projects. This is the first report with some numbers, but the details are still vague.
Congress put up about 1/3 of the money (4.6 billion), but that money is mostly dedicated to specific miles in the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo Sectors, that have not been built yet, awaiting acquisition of private lands. Even if they allow those contracts to run, it will end up full of holes, if the Administration refuses to use eminent domain to take the land from hold outs.
“the massive number of illegals streaming into the U.S. would cost the U.S. many times the ‘savings’ of $2.6 billion.”
You see aliens, Bidet sees votes!
NOW they becoming penny pinchers?!
making a big deal about 2.6 billion when they are spending trillions a year.
What joke.
Lot of stupid mindless people that are gullible enough to fall for that though.
Save $2.6 billion in construction costs, but cost us $100 billion (or much more) to pay our new citizens flooding in from the south.
That savings will go to pay to indoctrinate you that antifa/BLM are freedom loving organizations and your kids should get puberty-blocking drugs so they can self identify as radishes and weasels.
Figures lie and liars figure.
Next the Washpost will do an article on how much would be saved by shutting down all federal law enforcement.
... Well, they’ll have to keep some FBI functioning to cover up Dem criminality.
It wouldn’t be saved because the Democrats would immediately spend it on horseshit.
In percentage terms, these do seem to be quite inefficient to terminate - something like 20% of the price according to this report, in addition to not receiving fully completed product for a good chunk of what is delivered.
Three percent of unfinished work is more typical of terminations in general, although such heavy construction projects inherently have larger tangible costs to settle than the many Government “Body Shop” contracts that are buying man-years of support for Departments and agencies.
Typically, rough road goes through first, then bollards, and then utilities (lights, cameras, alarms) and finished roads. The whole system is designed to work together to achieve its operational effect. If the projects are stopped suddenly, a lot of miles where some work was done, will lack key elements, and will only be partially effective.
Save us 2.6 gross
How about net?
After crime, murder, drugs, welfare, expenses, fraud, etc
Nah, probably not 2.6 billion huh?
It’s really cute when leftists pretend to suddenly care about federal government spending, especially when it’s an amount ($2.6 billion) that is essentially pocket change to the government.
I think the 2.6 is what they estimate they will have available to spend elsewhere, if they scrap the contracts.
No thought whatsoever of the other costs that will be incurred elsewhere, as a result.
The Who did it and ran approach.
This from the Vice President who promised us that we would save $2,500 per year in health insurance, keep our plans and keep our doctors.
Free Beer Tomorrow.
If there’s one thing the DhimmicRATs are good at, it’s saving the US citizen money.
Chicken feed compared to the amount that will be thrown down the black hole of the Paris global warming bull and of helping Iran with their nuclear weapons program.
And here I thought Democrats loved shovel ready jobs.
