Oh yeah....on Facebook there is a Fairs and Entertainers Group (Private)—there is a very large body of folks that made a living as entertainers at the fairs...whether it was wandering grounds acts, to musicians on all the smaller stages to magicians and balloon artists, animal acts, and even Voice of the Fair (me)...
There is a podcast that has come out during the summer talking to all the various people in the industry. I listened to my friend the fair manager of the Yuma County Fair...we were just a couple of days of leaving home for Yuma when the word came that it was shut down. In other towns, the spring fairs shut down within an hour of opening. The Big Houston Stockshow had to close at the last weekend. What a drag cause thats when most of the money is made....
The money lost by vendors, concessionaires, fairs big and small, carnivals, etc....it is a very huge hit. Don’t think it will return to normal during my last years in the industry.
Yesterday my friend who worked high up in a big fair here in California just lost her job as well as all the others from top down.
