Public schools reported a decrease in the number of students for the first time in 30 years, many of them in early grades.
Enrollment in Colorado public schools dropped by close to 30,000 students this school year — the first year-to-year decrease the state’s public school system has reported in more than 30 years.

The overall drop in enrollment equates to a 3.3% decrease, with some of Colorado’s 178 school districts suffering dips of nearly 10% from enrollment during the 2019-20 school year. That could have serious consequences for the state’s public education system and districts budgets, which are largely determined by pupil counts,

Depending on how the legislature decides to fund education during the next lawmaking session, districts could suffer significantly.
“It could be devastating if they make a reduction,” Rainey said. “There is no way that school districts could absorb that kind of cut.”

Part of the enrollment decline is influenced by a rising number of families choosing to homeschool their children because of the pandemic. The number of students who are being homeschooled this year doubled to 15,773 this year from 7,880 in 2019

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Less illegals or due to Covid 19?
Planned Parenthood working its magic in ‘Rat Urban Utopias?
Are you trying to be funny?
Not a disaster for the districts.
But for teachers and retired teachers who thought their gravy train who chug merrily along forever...
...would chug...
Homeschool and abortion both have consequences. Some would say the answer is import more students from other nations.
Biden/Harris and the DEMs/RINOs will bail them out at the expense of other states and the taxpayers.
I have mother’s that come in because of stress saying they are trying to teach their own kids after they come home from work. The teachers just hand out lessons, meet a couple time a week online and that’s it! The teachers aren’t really teaching. The parents are doing it.
The school system is screwing itself.
Government unions bosses want their members to get full wages & benefits for no show jobs from us taxpayers - to keep the Union dues rolling into the Union thugs pockets.
The counties will just raise property taxes. “It’s for da childrens.”
Pray that they all collapse
Parents always want their kids educated, and when the bloated, corrupt, politicized government-union public education system rightly collapses, parents can easily pick up and re-organize the pieces locally with better-controlled local public schools, homeschooling, on-line schooling, private schooling or religious schooling.
Fine by me although I live in Tx. However 55% of my property taxes goes to public school districts and I have no children. Why is over half going to school districts? I know the answer.
And yet they are still wacking homeowners for property taxes that fund these rotten indoctrination centers.
It's way past time.
Colorado has $94 + billion in public pension liabilities versus $43 billion in assets. BOHICA, taxpayers.. a funded ration of 46 percent... 2018
Maybe people are just sick and tired of the ‘Kum ba ya’ crap and they’re moving out??
That is all they care about: MONEY...OUR MONEY! BTW,we are headed to a idiocy gap with so many kids getting BS Covid era “education”.
Just add some more to folks property taxes. Or let china joe write a check.
I would think they would have more money since they have less students!
