The Cleveland Indians will be bowing to pressure from mostly Caucasian social justice warriors over their “racist” nickname. An announcement is expected as early as this week.
The NY Times reported the long-time Major League Baseball franchise will be following the Washington Football Team, formerly known as the Redskins, in pandering to demands by those who are easily offended by traditions. That means Chief Wahoo, the iconic mascot for the team, will no longer be employed. According to The Times:
Following years of protests from fans and Native American groups, the Cleveland Indians have decided to change their team name, moving away from a moniker that has long been criticized as racist, three people familiar with the decision said Sunday.
The move follows a decision by the Washington Football Team of the N.F.L. in July to stop using a name long considered a racial slur, and is part of a larger national conversation about race that magnified this year amid protests of systemic racism and police violence.
Cleveland could announce its plans as soon as this week, according to the three people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
What the article and social justice warriors forget to mention is that Native Americans generally do not care about the name or mascot of professional sports teams. As I reported in July:
9 out of 10 Native Americans aren’t offended by the Washington Redskins’ name
These moves have been heralded as a result of “heightened awareness and shifting cultural norms” that make things once considered acceptable to suddenly be anathema in modern society. But the truth is this: They’re flexing their social justice muscles to demonstrate how manufactured outrage can be channeled to change anything they feel can be sold as racist. It’s a farce that exemplifies the post-truth society they’re trying to build.
Between voter fraud cover-ups, Antifa antics, and COVID-19 lockdown hysteria, it’s easy to forget that social justice warriors are still on the warpath. Wait, that term is supposed to be racist as well. It’s so hard to keep up.
How about the Cleveland Midges? Or is that too close to Midgets?
Cleveland Gnats?
Cleveland Cadavers?
Cleveland Crooks?
Cleveland Capos?
Cleveland Cicadas?
Cleveland Cyclones?
We went through this with the Redskins. Repeated polls of Native Americans consistently showed that they liked the name. Didn’t want it changed. The oh so #woke Washington Post would then whitesplain to the dumb Native Americans why they were too offended. That was offensive.
I’m done with professional sports.I don’t have a problem with my clergyman preaching fire and brimstone...but I won’t be lectured by those making millions to throw, catch or bounce a ball.
“Cleveland Indigenous People” is kinda clunky.
I figure soon, we will have the Atlanta baseball team, and the Chicago hockey team. F the PC monkeys.
Someone shoulf file a lawsiouxt.
Lol
Cleveland Wusses.
Cleveland Geldings
And in other news the Los Angeles Dodgers are being urged to drop their moniker. Originating at a time when the team’s fans were mocked for “dodging” the Brooklyn trolley cars in the area around its stadium, it is an insensitive reminder of the difficulties of its poor, urban fans in that era. To continue to use this offensive term disregards the plight of oppressed working class whites and suggests that the systemic exploitation of their labor can be frivolously dismissed in order to promote the billion dollar industry that is Major League Baseball.
What next? The Chicago Black Hawks?
Maybe they’ll change their name to the Cleveland Knickers, with a frilly undergarment as their mascot.
I guess they don’t want to move to India.
And I'm part Native...and most people Native that I know...could careless...about team names.
Erasing our history is one of the objectives here. When you have no history, no tradition, no holidays, no sports mascots, no flags, no church, and the nuclear family is dissolved, there is nothing left but the collective state.
Why should the Indians get all the attention?
"Ladies and gentlemen, now batting for the Cleveland Mistakes..."
There are other offensive names in sports.
If Indian nicknames are offensive , then......
Pittsburgh Steelers offends real steel workers
Dallas Cowboys offends real cowboys
LA Angels, San Diego Padres, New Orleans Saints are offensive to the Catholic church.
Milwaukee Brewers offends real brewmasters
Green Bay Packers offends real meat packers,
All the animal nicknames offend PETA types.
Etc etc
